Jim, you have given a constructive and a solution to the crisis in our current education system. We are currently battling to improve performance and motivation of our learners with our current methodologies. Your presentation indeed needs to be explored and internalised by our current system. We are really battling to get results from our learners especially in maths and sciences. Well done. I will read more on how I can duplicate your achievements to our current education system in South Africa.

Personalized Learning @ CESA #1 - Reflections on the Youth Summit

Personalized Learning @ CESA #1 - Reflections on the Youth Summit | gpmt | Scoop.it

Last month the Institute @ CESA #1 in Wisconsin conducted the first Youth Summit to focus on the importance of student engagement and including student voice.  Jim Rickabaugh, the Director of the Institute @ CESA #1 includes some ideas that student shared on personalized learning:

> "Personalized learning represents a small portion of the experience of most students today, but they would like it to play a more dominant role in their learning.

> Students believe that personalized learning would increase the level of their current learning and result in higher achievement.

> If students are given a greater voice in the focus, format and framing of their learning, they are willing to be held to higher standards of performance."

Personalized Learning - A Student Perspective

Personalized Learning - A Student Perspective | gpmt | Scoop.it

Gillian Locke, a senior at Kettle Moraine School Districts’ KM Global Charter School is a guest blogger this week @ CESA#1. Gillian is in a personalized learning environment at KM Global and spoke eloquently about her experiences when she was one of the panelists at CESA#1 Youth Summit in March.  Here are some of her thoughts about personalized learning:

"Unlike most seniors in high school, I have the freedom to choose what I want to do when I wake up each morning. I am not limited to an 8 hour bell schedule like my peers, nor does my learning stop when I drive off the high school parking lot at 2:30 pm. I don’t have to just do homework in the evenings, and don’t even have to go to classes during the day. Being a part of Kettle Moraine’s new charter school KM Global allows me to direct my learning on my own.

Because I have so many options, and different formats for learning, I have become a lot more in tune with how I learn best."
