Would you still drive a car if it was the Ford Model T? No? Even if the paint was new and it had air conditioning? The answer would always be “no,” said one education reform expert, because no matter how much you spruce up an old model, there’s always a maximum capacity … and the same applies to education.

The Internet has had a massive effect on all aspects of human life and interactions since its inception. The world has shrunk considerably and the speed of life has increased dramatically.

But one specific aspect that the internet has had an enormous effect on is education. It’s changing education for good and for the good of all.

We need to start envisioning our teachers as knowledge generators and creative professionals whom we trust to innovate and implement unorthodox ideas that might transform teaching and learning. The time has come to reward innovation among our best and most creative teachers. They should be given the time and resources to reflect on their practice, experiment with new ideas, and implement strategies to more effectively engage learners.

Content curation has become a hot topic in 2012.

Corrine Weisgerber, an associate professor at St. Edwards University, has an excellent presentation on content curation.

She differentiates content curation from content aggregation--content aggregation can be automated but content curation requires the human touch for finding, evaluating and contextualizing information.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) will announce on Monday that they intend to launch an online learning initiative called M.I.T.x,which will offer the online teaching of M.I.T. courses free of charge to anyone in the world.
