In this article, you will find several reasons why video games can be positive and beneficial for children to learn during a pandemic. I will briefly summarize each point below:
1. Literacy and language - video games allow the child to better develop reading and writing. Games encourage creativity and promote literacy, two qualities of an excellent English class.
2. Mathematics - There are many types of play that allow and help children develop their math skills.
3. Science - Playing video games has positive effects on processes like attention, perception, decision-making, and memory. Also in all those activities that require good hand-eye coordination and quick decision making. Video games have been found to improve performance in training for both pilots and surgeons.
4. History - There are many games based on historical facts that allow us to remember past times and interact with those events or characters, and of course learn what happened at that time.
We as teachers can also implement small videogames in our classes so that the children are encouraged and have fun while learning.
