In this article, you will find several reasons why video games can be positive and beneficial for children to learn during a pandemic. I will briefly summarize each point below:

1. Literacy and language - video games allow the child to better develop reading and writing. Games encourage creativity and promote literacy, two qualities of an excellent English class.

2. Mathematics - There are many types of play that allow and help children develop their math skills.

3. Science - Playing video games has positive effects on processes like attention, perception, decision-making, and memory. Also in all those activities that require good hand-eye coordination and quick decision making. Video games have been found to improve performance in training for both pilots and surgeons.

4. History - There are many games based on historical facts that allow us to remember past times and interact with those events or characters, and of course learn what happened at that time.

We as teachers can also implement small videogames in our classes so that the children are encouraged and have fun while learning.

Video games do have educational benefits along with some minor physical ones like reflexes and critical thinking with puzzles.

Gaming ,being inherently fun and engaging ,has the ability to teach a great deal of skills. Video games have the ability to teach math, English, history, humanities, problem solving, physics… the list goes on. Furthermore, video games and games in general are poised to be the solution to problems we all confront when pursuing a higher education and entering the job market. For example, minecraft which is a game where you build a world around you by mining, combining, and placing resources. The world is set on a square grid, so it takes planning and basic mathematics to create what gamers call “builds”. The game has long been used in classrooms to help teach coding, math, and collaboration.

This site enables teachers to set up class profiles, tailoring student profiles to their personal needs. It has work options from pre-school to grade 8, and allows the teacher to set assignments with a due date and also can see student process.

Online classes are a big challenge for both teacher and student, it is difficult to concentrate on the screen without getting bored or distracted, especially if you are at home. However, we have a variety of tools that we can use to motivate students and make our classes more fun, for example, online games.

Whatever the topic we are going to teach, there are many games we can use, memory, grammar, listening, matching, you just have to choose the one that best suits the topic and objectives of your class.

Among the most recommended is Kahoot, since it is very personalized, in which besides the learning aspect, you can also develop as an evaluation, among many other options, puzzles, challenges, among others. The other highly recommended app is Classcraft, it has an RPG format and in it, students can create their own character, and every time they answer a question they earn points that are used to customize their avatar.

Although games are not the only strategy, they help us a lot if we encourage students to connect and participate!

Personally, I have been implementing it for a few weeks now and the kids are really excited! You should give it a try!

The online classes are the present educational system, so, the educators have new challenges. One of these demands the relation between their students and them. Online games could be a solution to it. No matter what the subject that they teach is, they could find an online game to use in their classes as a way to build connections among them, and also to learn new things while learning. They could engage learners with platforms such as Kahoot, Class craft, or any other to do activities, quizzes, and so on. It allows them to connect with their students and interacts with them. These relationships can be also influential for the succeed of the class, since building confidence and providing them with a safe environment could decrease considerably their fears, stress and anxiety caused by the new way of learning.

Online learning has been the new norm for some time now. Using games to connect with students is an excellent way to keep them engaged. Using Kahoot has been a great tool to keep learners engaged. Although you can’t physically be there to inspire the learners, using network tools is proven to help. During sessions, I have also used Menti. It has been useful in conducting interactive sessions with adults as well.

Gamification and game-based learning are often confused, but they have different objectives and implementation methods. Gamification involves applying game design techniques to engage and motivate learners, turning the learning process into a game and using game mechanics and elements. Game-based learning, on the other hand, incorporates actual games into the learning process to teach specific skills or achieve learning outcomes. Both approaches have benefits and can be used in different situations to enhance the learning experience.
