I understand that fathers have rights, and I’m all for that. But this ruling took those rights way too far, to the point of dangerousness. "Giving a whole new meaning to "pregnancy brain," a new study shows that male DNA—likely left over from pregnancy with a male fetus—can persist in a woman's brain throughout her life. Although the biological impact of this foreign DNA is unclear, the study also found that women with more male DNA in their brains were less likely to have suffered from Alzheimer's disease—hinting that the male DNA could help protect the mothers from the disease, the researchers say."

I found it very interesting that during the 20th century 95% of babies were born in the home using a midwife. However, today in age it's less than 1%. They say that midwifery fell down so much is because its not classified as an actual profession. Approximately 85% of women start labour with no complications therefor, the need for all the medicines and equipment is unnecessary. Ad even though midwifery isn't a profession, they are classified as Certified Nurse Midwives or Certified professional midwives.

Kathryn Hall-Trujillo worked for the state of California from 1976 to 1991 as a public health administrator, and during that time, noticed that families often struggled to pay for the care of infants born with serious health problems. When she realized that pregnancy care for expectant mothers would cost less than 0.01 percent of the funds used to stabilize a sick infant, she created Birthing Project USA -- a nonprofit organization that improves birth outcomes by recruiting and training community volunteers to provide guidance, education and social support to pregnant and parenting teens and women. Hundreds of women, many in low-paying jobs, see their paychecks disappear right after they tell their bosses of their pregnancies. Their stories recently were highlighted at an EEOC hearing on pregnancy discrimination. Nationwide in fiscal 2011, women filed 5,797 complaints with the EEOC alleging pregnancy discrimination at work or in hiring, a 23 percent increase from fiscal 2005.

A new crime of "fetal homicide" is on hold in Colorado amid concerns the proposal was vague and could affect abortion rights.
The Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee tabled the bill Monday, just before it appeared the committee would reject the measure. The bill was approved last month by the Republican House.
Similar bills have been defeated in years past because current Colorado criminal law already enhances penalties for violent crimes when the victims are pregnant.

The United States is unusual among developed countries in guaranteeing exactly zero weeks of paid time-off from work upon the birth or adoption of a child. Japan offers 14 weeks of paid job-protected leave, the U.K. offers 18, Denmark 28, Norway 52, and Sweden offers 68 (yes, that’s over a year of paid time-off to take care of a new child).

This week, the Supreme Court ruled, by the all-too-familiar 5-4 margin, that a provision of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) giving workers time off to care for their own serious health conditions — including pregnancy and childbirth — can't be enforced by state employees in damages lawsuits against their public employers. The decision in Coleman v. Court of Appeals of Maryland effectively stripped many public employees — the majority of whom are women — of the right to job protection when they need to take time off while pregnant.
