How sexism in schools is 'exhausting' young women

How sexism in schools is 'exhausting' young women | Herstory | Scoop.it

I'm fifteen years old, currently studying for my GCSEs and I feel that sexism in schools is a massive issue. The last thing I want to hear when walking into school on a Monday morning are rape 'jokes' and go-back-to-the-kitchen 'jokes'. Many girls who openly support feminism are automatically...

The Women Behind Erotic Fiction

The Women Behind Erotic Fiction | Herstory | Scoop.it
Warning: The captions of this post are excerpts from the featured writers' erotic literature and contain sexually explicit language.  Who are the people behind erotic fiction, those accounts of racy affairs and clandestine romances so often stashed away in secret, read in the privacy of one’s home?
Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

Quote: “Easy to imagine they would be foxy, leather-clad mistresses, whip in one hand, the other on the keyboard. I knew the reality would be very different. I wanted to see behind their pseudonyms and secret lives,” Woolfall said in a statement.

Why even begin with the nasty stereotype? Do men get that wrap?

"Guns Don't Kill People; Dad's With Pretty Daughters Kill People" | Herstory | Scoop.it
Straight out of the creepy files, dads are viewing their daughters as their own property -- property which can be defended like some backward "stand your ground" law. The following exhibits were al...

@Laura Brown I can't agree with you. Wearing shirts about guns & violent threats isn't the answer to rape culture. In fact, this stinks more of rape culture than anything. It's about a man's property; not respect or a woman's value.
Laura Brown's comment, January 21, 2015 6:23 PM
I'm reading it as more bluster or humour based. But the tone of protecting daughters is still important. People don't protect something or someone they don't value.
Laura Brown's comment, January 21, 2015 6:25 PM
Maybe it's a Canada/ US difference too. Not many people here actually have a gun to wave around. So here a shirt like that would not be seen as serious versus humour or propaganda.

The Truth About "Monster Porn" (NWS)

The Truth About "Monster Porn" (NWS) | Herstory | Scoop.it

“Monster porn”, otherwise known as “monster erotica”, “cryptozoological erotica”, and “erotic horror”, should be well-known to fans of this site. These sexy stories employ mythical creatures — everything from vampires, demons, zombies, and other monsters to centaurs, mermaids, leprechauns, and aliens — as sex partners. And apparently this upsets people enough for them to censor such stories. But why?

Sexism In The Gambling Industry

Sexism In The Gambling Industry | Herstory | Scoop.it

With all the talk about sexism in gaming, I think it's time to discuss the sexism in gambling. Everyone knows that the number of female gamblers are increasing, just as it is in gaming; but where are the casinos, online or real world destinations, which cater to these women?

Women - Especially Lesbians- Are Shallow Money Sucking Beasts Says President of Marriage Policy

Women - Especially Lesbians- Are Shallow Money Sucking Beasts Says President of Marriage Policy | Herstory | Scoop.it

Just a few days before Women’s Equality Day, the President of the Center for Marriage Policy, David R. Usher, made a very bold statement, accusing women, especially lesbians, of being shallow, money-sucking beasts who desire to enslave men.  His article in Renew America on August 21 has triggered a landslide of reactions from many people, including the LGBTQ community, wondering which dense brain cell he could have pulled his theories out of.

According to David Usher, same sex marriages (especially between women), if allowed to spread across the nation, will spur a mass enslavement of men.  How will this occur?  Apparently, lesbian women are primed to get themselves pregnant outside of their partnership by unsuspecting straight and even gay males, who they will then demand child-support from, raping the tax-payers to support their “sinful” lifestyle.  He even goes so far as to suggest that single mothers would marry each other in order to collect double child-support and cause an economic slavery to occur for heterosexual men everywhere.

What Are Women Earning? (And How Are Men Shrinking?)

What Are Women Earning? (And How Are Men Shrinking?) | Herstory | Scoop.it

One should also note that this is not simply a matter of “feminism having won, so just let it all go away.” For the findings also reveal that “total family income is higher when the mother, not the father, is the primary breadwinner.” Thanks, pink collar ghetto, unequal pay, and continuing notions of gender inequality in the workplace. Not to mention all the BS traditional notions of motherhood.

Never mind the facts, however; let’s just get to the million dollar subtext question Liza Donnelly put forth regarding the 37% — the married mothers who have a higher income than their husbands: Can Husbands Handle Being Outearned By Their Wives?

...If you want to dismiss all this as the ramblings of irrelevant talking asshats on Fox (for which I will gently remind you that their rhetoric is often too dangerous to be dismissed), you’ll need to also know about this other study, called In Sickness and In Wealth...

Weird Science ponders the sexism inherent in its favored breast size

Weird Science ponders the sexism inherent in its favored breast size | Herstory | Scoop.it

But wait, there's more! While they had the males' attention, they also surveyed attitudes towards women. "Further analyses showed that men’s preferences for larger female breasts were significantly associated with a greater tendency to be benevolently sexist, to objectify women, and to be hostile towards women." So, perhaps the confused results from previous studies were the product of having survey populations with varying degrees of sexism.
