"Guns Don't Kill People; Dad's With Pretty Daughters Kill People"

"Guns Don't Kill People; Dad's With Pretty Daughters Kill People" | Herstory | Scoop.it
Straight out of the creepy files, dads are viewing their daughters as their own property -- property which can be defended like some backward "stand your ground" law. The following exhibits were al...

@Laura Brown I can't agree with you. Wearing shirts about guns & violent threats isn't the answer to rape culture. In fact, this stinks more of rape culture than anything. It's about a man's property; not respect or a woman's value.
Laura Brown's comment, January 21, 2015 6:23 PM
I'm reading it as more bluster or humour based. But the tone of protecting daughters is still important. People don't protect something or someone they don't value.
Laura Brown's comment, January 21, 2015 6:25 PM
Maybe it's a Canada/ US difference too. Not many people here actually have a gun to wave around. So here a shirt like that would not be seen as serious versus humour or propaganda.

We know she’s a girl. We can never emphasize this enough, because this is the fate of colored girls globally right now: the denial of their girlhood, the denial of their childhood, and the constant state of risk and danger they are living in.

My daughters' school has a new dress code: No bellies. No buns. No breasts. Funny how it's all about girls, not boys.

Laura Brown's comment, September 17, 2013 9:04 PM
The girls are the ones showing up with most of their skin exposed. Other than showing their boxers, the boys have far less exposure. I'm glad if schools are enforcing dress codes. I get annoyed seeing young women with their ass, boobs and belly exposed. They look like they should be acting on some TV show like Dukes of Hazard, or some other show geared for men who want to see soft porn on TV.

The war on 12-year-old girls

The war on 12-year-old girls | Herstory | Scoop.it

An epidemic of high-profile trolling is a testament to how pathological misogyny is — and how early it begins.

My dear daughter, I am so sorry these morons are out there, and that you and your friends are in their cross hairs. That they don’t see you as a person but a threat. But I hope they’re right. I hope you and your friends grow up to be everything that scares the crap out of these idiots. I hope you all stay loud and strong and refuse to be pushed around by dirty weirdos hiding in their basements, anonymously trying put you down, rewarding each other with encouragement and bobbleheads. I hope you change the world. I hope you all can stay brave and autonomous and bullyproof and be their worst nightmare. Because they’re been trying to be yours for way too long.

A popular gender exercise among High School students

A popular gender exercise among High School students | Herstory | Scoop.it

Spark a Movement

A popular exercise among High School creative writing teachers in America is to ask students to imagine they have been transformed, for a day, into someone of the opposite sex, and describe what that day might be like. The results, apparently, are uncannily uniform. The girls all write long and detailed essays that clearly show they have spent a great deal of time thinking about the subject. Half of the boys usually refuse to write the essay entirely. Those who do make it clear they have not the slightest conception what being a teenage girl might be like, and deeply resent having to think about it. [MORE]
