Management Is (Still) Not Leadership
Bloomberg
A few weeks ago, the BBC asked me to come in for a radio interview.
Trish Sadar's insight:

Absolutely wonderful must-read article for all leaders!

Leadership is all about what is not written on your job description.  It is doing more than what is expected regarding the technical skills.

It is about being authentic, sharing the vision, communicating in a way that connects with others.  So that you can inspire others to believe in what they are doing, where you jointly are going, so that they believe and want to give their all to join the journey and really make a difference.

Are you a leader?

Anthony Alume's comment January 11, 2013 5:27 PM
I read a book called 'Who Gets Promoted Who Doesn't and Why" by Donald Asher. In the book, the author gives four position and in the those four positions are management and leadership. He gives a list of skill-sets to each of those position. For example, "Leaders can inspire and Managements can monitors the activities of others" is what I pulled from him. When I return to the statement, "People often think of "leadership" in terms of personality characteristics.", its wonderful that a person is charismatic but that's not going to inspire people but give them a temporary satisfaction. In answering your question, I would say, "no, I'm not a leader in my job".

Dear Anthony, Thank you so much for your insight! You better believe that I will be reading the book that you talked about. I agree with you that leadership is not about being charismatic. Rather, my humble opinion leaders are authentic. Leaders still have to excel at the technical skills. Anthony, can you offer any other must read leadership books?

Nice artilcle!

Clear vision, inspiring others, allowing them to believe, developing talent, and empowering others .... all reminders of what we should know.

The question is what we know isn't always what we do...right?
