More urgent than ever. I have been noticing a change in CPAs in all walks of life (small practice, large firms, mid-market CFOs, public company finance/accounting teams) talking about the need for leadership at all levels. It goes way beyond the obvious need for succession planning. It seems to be driven by the accelerating change and complexity and need for people who can anticipate what's coming around the bend and help mobilize the organization to make the turns and adjust the sails as necessary. It is this kind of leader that I am seeing becoming fast in-demand. What do you see?

Three Things Every Leader Should Do in a Meeting

Three Things Every Leader Should Do in a Meeting | Leadership Advice & Tips | Scoop.it

Benjamin Franklin famously said, “The only things certain in life are death and taxes.” If Franklin were alive today, he would probably add “meetings” to that list. Meetings are a permanent fixture on all of our schedules, ever present and in many cases unavoidable. Instead of viewing meetings as an expense, think of them as an investment. I find effective leaders view meetings as an opportunity to advance the outcome, while strengthening themselves and the teams they lead.

Here are three things I strive to achieve when meeting with teams:

Meetings are an inevitable fact of life.  If not managed properly, they can be a significant waste of time, promote inefficiencies, and kill productivity.  A few practical tips can help organizations make the investment in time worthwhile.

I agree with you Garth! I certainly took some great gold nuggets from this article for my own meetings.

Four Areas Where Senior Leaders Should Focus Their Attention

Four Areas Where Senior Leaders Should Focus Their Attention | Leadership Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
It was getting close to lunch time and the people seated around the table — the CEO and seven of his direct reports — were clearly getting antsy. But it wasn't because they were hungry.
Trish Sadar's insight:

Excellent article!  Senior leaders removed the ppt deck presentations, and started talking to eachother.  They mutually agreed upon key priorities, and that is when they started focusing their energy, focus, and time on what mattered most.

What are some practices that your company does to ensure that the senior leaders stay focused?

When was the last time you did something for the first time as a leader?

When was the last time you did something for the first time as a leader? | Leadership Advice & Tips | Scoop.it
Trish Sadar's insight:

Someone asked me many years agao, Trish when was the last time you did something for the first time as a leader?  WOW....that question is so powerful that I constantly ask that question to myself and others.

I sincerely believe that if we are not constantly learning, growing, and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones then we as leaders are not reaching our potential.

If we are not reaching our potential it could be that our teams, departments, and organizations aren't either.

Even during Strategic Planning I ask the Executive Teams this question:  What one goal is impossible to achieve ; however, if we achieved would be a gamechanger?

If you constantly push yourself out of your comfort zone to learn then teams start acting as though it were impossible to fail.

Please let me know what questions you ask to keep yourself and your teams reaching higher.

Make it a great day!
