Frontiers in Immunology: Research Topics

Frontiers in Immunology: Research Topics | History of Immunology | Scoop.it

Thus, this Research Topic, “A Living History of Immunology” intends to collate as many stories as possible from the investigators who actually performed the experiments that have established the frontiers of immunology. Accordingly, we are after the “truth”, to combat “revisionist science”, by those who want to alter history by telling the stories a different way than actually happened. In this regard, one of the good things about science vs. other disciplines is that we have the written record of what was done, when it was done and by whom. Even so we do not have the complete story or narrative of how and why experiments were done, and what made the differences that led to success. This Research Topic is meant to chronicle these stories in the past fifty years in immunology.

The Story of César Milstein and Monoclonal Antibodies: Introduction

The Story of César Milstein and Monoclonal Antibodies: Introduction | History of Immunology | Scoop.it
Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

This exhibition of the life and work of César Milstein provides a window into the world where monoclonal antibodies were first developed. Showing Milstein's notebooks and writings for the first time, this exhibition provides first-hand the complexities that were involved in the creation of monoclonal antibodies and brings to life the many challenges scientists face in devising a viable biotechnological tool and its application in healthcare. Transforming monoclonal antibodies, which started life as a laboratory tool into something that could be of use in the outside world was neither straightforward nor inevitable.
