Workshop session descriptions: you may choose 2 options from sessions 1 - 4 (each are 1-hour in length) or choose only #5 (2-hour session)

1. SEL (Social Emotional Learning) strategies & SEL language​ in the classrooms - A general overview of the essential features of Social Emotional Learning, specifically self-regulation, will be discussed as well as how this initiative may be evident in our classrooms. Examples of strategies, language, and learning environments that support the development of self-regulation will be shared.. Parents will leave this presentation with ideas of how they can support their child in the area of self-regulation and social emotional wellness.

2. Deep Learning: learning environments for students with special needs - Classroom environments are​ now more conducive to​ student learning.​ The flexibility of the teaching/learning environments allows students to learn at times in larger settings and at times in a personalized area. What does it mean for students with special needs?

3. Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) - Unlocking the Curriculum - This session is designed for parents to demonstrate how the IEP supports students with their learning. The discussion includes an explanation of accommodation, modification and alternative expectations and how each can support students in unlocking the curriculum to reach their full potential.

4. Literacy and Numeracy for Students with ADHD - This session is designed to inform parents on Literacy and Numeracy Strategies that will help support students with ADHD. The discussion will include an overview of ADHD, as well as topics around movement and Learning Environments, General Accommodations, and Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. There will be time given at the end to explore resources.

5. Assistive Technology: Join us for a hands-on exploration of “Read & Write” and Google Suite. You will have an opportunity to experience first hand what it is like to use these tools to access the curriculum just as our students do.

Assistive Technology: Join us for a hands-on exploration of “Read & Write” and Google Suite. You will have an opportunity to experience first hand what it is like to use these tools to access the curriculum just as our students do.

Positive Advocacy: Learn tips to help you positively advocate for your child with special needs during education setting meetings. There will be an opportunity for parents to make suggestions as to how OCSB school staff can help support their concerns.

Mental Health Supports at the OCSB: Who can you approach for help when your child is experiencing mental health issues? Come and learn about the mental health resources available at the board and in the community to support students with mental health challenges.

On My Way - Transitions: Effective transitions planning allows for students to be successful as they move through their day, activities or settings. Come and learn how we support successful transitions at all different points for students - prior to the start of school, throughout a student's daily schedule, from grade to grade, and when moving from one school to another.
