Google Earth is an excellent online tool every teacher can use as a classroom resource. Students can learn something important in any subject area from History, Science, and literature. Learners can be exposed to cultures worldwide that they usually wouldn't have available to them. Art students can visit famous landmarks virtually and learn about ancient architecture.

Emily Harvey's curator insight, May 13, 2019 12:16 AM
Google Earth is a great tool that can be incorporated, not only in the science clasroom, but also in other subject areas. With the updated version of Google Earth, there are many features that can be utilised in the classroom. Some of my favourite ways to utilise Google Earth in my lessons is to create a tour, design a scavenger hunt and get out of this world to another planet. The use of this ICT exceeds globes, atlas and encyclopedias that globally informed students in the past. This technology provides insight into the world around us without leaving the classroom. It also supports students to use investigative techniques and critical thinking skills. Students are able to connect on a global scale using this ICT.The only down side to using this digital technology is that it can load slowly depending on the internet speed. Apart from slow internet speed, students can immerse themselves anywhere in or out of this world!

Earth Engine combines a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with planetary-scale analysisGoogle capabilities and makes it available for scientists, researchers, and developers to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth's surface.

Thanks! Great site to see human impact on our planet.
Miss Bullock's curator insight, May 11, 2020 5:34 PM
This tool is really useful for students studying the value of our ecosystems as the timelapse shows changes to the environment over time. The interactive timelines, which show how habitats have changed due to things like urban growth, bushfires or deforestation, bring to life concerns that a textbook alone would not allow. Tools like this are used by professionals, offering students real-world opportunities to engage with the work of a scientist.

Morgan Adams's curator insight, May 15, 2019 11:00 PM
Google Maps and Google Earth provide a whole new dimension (quite literally) of teaching different aspects of Geography. This new update provides a redefinition of teaching students about factors such as land formation, layers of the lithosphere and with time lapse the effects of human behaviour on our earth in the future. I cannot wait to use and share this in my future classroom!
Al Garlando's curator insight, May 15, 2019 11:26 PM
timelapse is a great digital tool to demonstrate environmental effects to students ... and teachers! ;)
Morgan Adams's comment, May 15, 2019 11:28 PM
Integrating applications such as Google Maps and Google Earth into HASS, particularly Geography lessons can help students to understand, especially those who have limited exposure as to what the future of our Earth is turning into. When we cannot take an excursion in to space or get our students to understand the pressure that hour behaviours as humans is causing the Earth, Google Earth will be there to help.
