What are the Biggest Mistakes Teachers Make When Integrating Technology into the Classroom?

What are the Biggest Mistakes Teachers Make When Integrating Technology into the Classroom? | Languages, ICT, education | Scoop.it

The word “mistake” is a harsh word. It implies flaws, pointing fingers, errors in judgement, something wrong and possibly even a dead end. I would rather think or connect the word “mistake” to first steps, stepping stones, experimentation and exploration. With that being said, those “first steps” or that exploration cannot become a routine cemented in stone how technology is being used in the classroom. Stepping stones are meant to lead to something else. ...

Why Integrate Tech?
What Is Tech Integration?

How to integrate Technology?
Resources for Tech Integration

Integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs. Effective tech integration must happen across the curriculum in ways that research shows deepen and enhance the learning process. The Importance of Teaching Technology to Teachers

The Importance of Teaching Technology to Teachers | Languages, ICT, education | Scoop.it

We’ve all said it. “Technology is the wave of the future.” There’s no denying that. It’s actually the wave of the present. I know that every teacher in academe today has heard that the need to use technology in the classroom is imperative now. If we are going to engage our students in the class discussions and the lectures, we need to be doing this engagement with the technologies they are familiar with. Just last month, The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) said the same thing. In their recent reconstruction of the definition of literacy in the 21st century ...

Avoiding "Just Google it!" with your students

Avoiding "Just Google it!" with your students | Languages, ICT, education | Scoop.it

We often refer to students as being ‘digital natives’ but while our students may have grown up with today’s technology, many of them do not know how to use it effectively, particularly for academic purposes. While evidence appears inconclusive about whether school libraries are in decline, owing to the online alternatives, my discussions with students indicate that in some classes they never use the library for research purposes. If this is the case with some classes, how well are teachers guiding students when conducting online inquiry?

Our responsibility, when asking students to inquire or perform any form of online research, is to teach them how to use the technology both efficiently and effectively. So, what do we need in schools to make this happen? ...

Really? It’s My Job To Teach Technology?

Really? It’s My Job To Teach Technology? | Languages, ICT, education | Scoop.it

Why do I need to teach movie making? Because you want students to create good content that they can share.

Why do I need to teach how to search? Because you want students to have the skill of evaluating and analyzing.
