In a week marked by controversy over police treatment of protestors, and the upcoming Republican National Committee Convention, a ray of sunshine peaked through the clouds on the east side. The Charlotte LGBT Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon on a small business command center on June 5.

Another well known Charlotte family has joined the Belks in supporting the state’s first homeless shelter for lesbian, gay and transgender youths: The Levines. Howard Levine, former CEO of Family Dollar, and his wife Julie have issued a $100,000 matching grant, asking the other donors to match his gift dollar for dollar.
