Communicating Knowledge Management (KM) to Busy Lawyers | LawyerKM

Communicating Knowledge Management (KM) to Busy Lawyers | LawyerKM | information analyst | Scoop.it
I am constantly reminded of the importance of communicating effectively.  And I am repeatedly convinced that a simple message delivered in a simple way is most ("Communicating Knowledge Management (KM) to Busy Lawyers" by @LawyerKM

Connections  Are the Key…

My favorite (and primary) way to communicate KM to lawyers — and the representation in the KM card, above — is to speak in terms of connections.  It’s about “connecting people with people, connecting people with knowledge and information, and the processes, procedures, and technologies required to make those connections.”  I like this approach because it is broad, yet meaningful.  It allows me to talk about various aspects of KM from culture to technology, without eyes glazing over.

I carry the KM cards with me at work (and elsewhere).  When I need to explain KM to someone, I talk about connections.  After my elevator speech, I hand them a card as a take-away mnemonic.   “Here’s an easy way to remember what we do,” I say,  “the KM department’s email address is on the back.”

The more “complex” definitions of KM are fine when talking to people in KM circles and getting into the depths of knowledge management, but when talking to busy lawyers, spouting some convoluted, jargon-bloated, “nonsense” is the surest way to lose their attention.  Lawyers are no strangers to jargon.  They know it — and will reject it (and you) — the second they hear it.

An innovative and pleasant way to discover and transform information to knowledge.

An innovative and pleasant way to discover and transform information to knowledge. | information analyst | Scoop.it

Everyday hundreds of millions of Internet users find, collect, manage and absorb information of any kind from different sources like web pages, videos, blogs, wikis, images, online books, documents and even online courses. Different kinds of information processing serve different needs or aspects of our lives. Just reading news, for example, serves our need to be informed about what happens around us. Whereas organizing, socialising and verifying information serves our intrinsic need to transform information to knowledge and understand better the world. Finally knowledge certification serves our need for social acknowledgement, a better job and a better life.

Based on these facts there are two different needs.

- First, users must be able to find or create, filter, collect and organize the best pieces of information related to a subject. The shelf life of information is now so short that knowing where to find information is sometimes more valuable than knowing any particular piece of information.
-Secondly, users need a flexible system to manage and efficiently use this information regarding its format (web site, blog, wiki, document, video, online course) and its purpose (informing, entertaining, learning, certificating).
It is clear that the fields of social networking, information management, online learning and knowledge sharing are converging rapidly. Because of this evolution we need a new and innovative approach which simulates the natural way we gather information and learn.

An innovative platform wich has been built upon those principles, is now online. Learn more on http://www.schoox.com

Branding Is About Creating Patterns, Not Repeating Messages

Branding Is About Creating Patterns, Not Repeating Messages | information analyst | Scoop.it

In the latest Method 10x10 piece, principal Marc Shillum argues that branding lies in creating patterns that add up to a whole, rather than a single, monolithic message.

Brands today exist in multiple mediums, defined by multiple voices. The media brands inhabit is iterative, with no beginning, no end, and little permanency. In that context, adherence to a big idea and endless repetition of centralized, fixed rules can make a brand seem unresponsive and out of step with its audience. But without repetition, how does a brand create consistency? And without consistency, how does a brand maintain value?

Brands as Patterns

We all know that brands are increasingly accessed digitally, but a less considered consequence is that the interface through which a brand is accessed has become a primary identity element...

Using Google+ Ripples to Connect with Influencers

Using Google+ Ripples to Connect with Influencers | information analyst | Scoop.it

Two weeks ago today, Google released “Ripples” for Google+ and most of the world went on with their daily activities. Personally I thought it was just another one of those features that was interesting but nothing I could really use. That was until this Whiteboard+ video which I filmed with Rand. Both Rand and I were blown away at the amount of data a Ripple gives you and what you can do with it.

What is a Ripple

The definition of a “ripple effect” is: a spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event. When it comes to Google+ a Ripple is an interactive diagram that shows how a Google+ post spreads as it’s shared by users. You can find the Ripple of any public post using the dropdown to the right of the post...

25 Google+ tips and tricks

25 Google+ tips and tricks | information analyst | Scoop.it

Google+ unveiled itself to the public amidst a chorus of praise and adulation from techies all over the globe. Unfortunately, it also earned a good amount of scorn from individuals who were not ready to grasp the unique philosophy Google+ was promoting. That philosophy is one of openness.

Unlike Facebook, Google+ is designed to connect strangers, and inspire collaboration and contribution. It has proven to be an amazing platform for promoting ideas, brands and people.

Since its early rollout, Google+ has forced competitors to begin evolving, inspiring platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to develop new ways of thinking about social media and the functionality they offer.

Stop the Social Puppetry for Klout and Other Influence Metrics!

Stop the Social Puppetry for Klout and Other Influence Metrics! | information analyst | Scoop.it

If you have been online Twitter or Facebook this week it would be hard to miss the chatter on Klout and their new algorithm. A new algorithm launched on October 26, 2011.

There were strong arguments for and against the change. Although Klout stated “a majority of users will see their scores stay the same or go up”, there seems to be more that dropped than not. Many saw a drop of of 15+ points. My personal score dropped 19 points. I am yet to receive an explanation or a response to my email from Klout as to the change and to several other very important questions I asked them.

As Danny Brown summarized in the article, “Is Klout Using Our Privacy to Violate our Privacy?” there are concerns that Klout is creating and publicly publishing profiles of minors set to private on Facebook for people who haven’t ever signed up for Klout...
