The MOOC: Information Literacy Online has been released. The MOOC is available in: English, German, Catalan, Spanish, Croatian and Slovenian. There are six main modules:
Module 1: Orienting in an information landscape
Module 2: Research is a journey of inquiries
Module 3: The power of search
Module 4: Critical information appraisal
Module 5: Information use: the right and fair way
Module 6: Let’s create something new based on information and share it!
Additionally there are a couple subject-specific modules (in the English-language version, but only one in the German and Croatian versions and none in the Spanish). There is text and pictures, plus some videos and quizzes.
This is the outcome of a European project (articles etc. about the project here - this article gives an interesting and detailed account of the guiding principles and practicalities).
The content can also be re-used under a Creative Commons license.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Puts 375,000 Public-Domain Images in Creative Commons | ARTnews | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
As part of a new initiative it’s calling Open Access, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has placed 375,000 images of public-domain works in the Creative Commons. This major, though not unprecedented, move by one of the world’s most important museums means that users can now access pictures of many of the Met’s holdings on Wikimedia, and that these images are now subject to free use, with no copyright restrictions.

The New York Public Library just released a treasure trove of digitized public domain images, everything from epic poetry from the 11th century to photographs of used car lots in Columbus, Ohio from the 1930s. Over 180,000 manuscripts, maps, photographs, sheet music, lithographs, postcards, and other images were released online Wednesday in incredibly high resolution, and are available to download using the library's user-friendly visualization tool. It's a nostalgist's dream come true.

A Brief Overview of Fair Use and Creative Commons Licensing | Morningside Educational Technology

Producing and sharing digital media has never been easier. A simple Google search brings up thousands of images. Music is available digitally. There are programs and apps that make creating new digital products using existing media a snap. With this ease, it is important that in addition to simply being a good citizen, one must also be a good digital citizen. One characteristic of being a good digital citizen is  not stealing or using another’s work in a way that is not approved.  With this issue comes the topic of Fair Use and the Creative Commons license.

Creative Commons licenses provide a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors, artists, and educators.

We're taking part in Copyright Week, a series of actions and discussions supporting key principles that should guide copyright policy. Every day this week, various groups are taking on different elements of the law, and addressing what's at stake, and what we need to do to make sure that copyright promotes creativity and innovation.

OER is catalyst for national conversation about public higher education

OER is catalyst for national conversation about public higher education | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Learning about Creative Commons licenses was a game changer for me. I’d been teaching undergraduates for almost two decades when I first heard Cable Green speak about how open educational resources can allow for easier sharing and collaboration around educational materials. I sensed that a seismic shift was going to happen in my pedagogy, but it’s taken me a few years to see OER's even larger potential for my work.

I don’t know how common it is for folks to have to explain Creative Commons licenses for others, but it often feels like a “continuously negotiated” thing (to use Catherine Cronin’s term). So I recently had a conversation that went something like this, with a professor who wants to create an open textbook (the actual discussion was slightly more complex and with more people involved):

Finding free and legal images to accompany your web content has never been difficult, thanks to Creative Commons. The nonprofit organization offers copyright licenses that creators can use to share their work more broadly, while putting them in control of where and how their work can be used, how it should be attributed and more. Now the organization is making it easier to access this content with a new search engine, CC Search, launched into beta this morning.

4 reasons to use Creative Commons | Learning with 'e's | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
In the social media age, sharing and repurposing are common place. Many professionals depend on the ability to amplify and distribute content freely through their networks. This raises a number of tensions around creativity, intellectual property and copyright. Creative Commons (CC) is a copyright management system that goes a long way to addressing these issues.

Dr. Pyrate's curator insight, May 4, 2015 3:33 PM

Don't get me wrong: I'm a pyrate. I believe in open sourcing. I also understand the paradox in the Anglophone educational and academic ideologies that "you are a valuable, unique intellectual individual with something important to say; and you mean NOTHING, and we won't listen to you until you have a whole bunch of intellectual allies to back you up, and you can prove it."

So...these are things we have to keep an eye on.
