From partnership to fusion: future educational landscapes | Wonkhe | Analysis | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Across the higher education sector, aspirations to internationalise the student body, transform approaches to education, increase student recruitment and generate revenue are all on the agenda.

Once, universities might have been able to do all of this on their own. But it looks less likely as we move towards a digitally integrated future. Evidence-based pedagogical approaches for online education mean that very high quality engaged learning is now available at scale. But making the right choices of technologies and deploying them effectively requires effective partnerships and collaborations with providers.

R.A.T. Model (Replacement, Amplification, Transformation) | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

RAT is an assessment framework for understanding technology’s role in teaching, learning and curricular practices, originally developed for PK-12 education, but it has been applied in higher education, especially in pre-service teacher education. The original purpose of the RAT framework was to introduce it as a self-assessment for preservice and inservice teachers to increase critical technological decision-making.

But there are also teachers in classrooms right now that don’t have the gift of design–that is, they can’t start fresh at audience and purpose: who am I teaching, and why? They are given content in the form of standards, and often given packaged standards in the form of curriculum. The assessment form is out of their hands, and even scheduling and pace with regard to scope-and-sequences and related maps.

Upon first reading the article "Is Embracing Digital Learning a Moral Issue for Educators?" by Wesley Fryer published on www.SpeedofCreativity.org , I was quick to believe that the subject is being blown out of proportion.
Dan Kirsch's curator insight, March 3, 2016 5:05 PM
Teaching is relational, therefore ethical. It happens in relationship to students and subjects. How teachers mediate (and they do) subject matter for students involves ethical, practical, and relational language and actions.

A new research hub on the use of technology in education in developing countries

A new research hub on the use of technology in education in developing countries | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Given the lack of rigorous evidence to guide related decision making, a big investment in educational technologies has in many ways been the true ‘faith-based initiative’ in many education systems over the past two decades. While there are still gaping holes in our collective knowledge base about what works, and what doesn’t, related to many uses of ‘edtech’, we thankfully) know substantially more today than we did even a few years ago.

Today, a profound disconnect separates the needs of students and the models of higher education. Mobile connectivity has brought in virtual proximity to far-off places that shrinks physical distance; students can take classes wherever they have access to the internet.

The Challenges of Digital Leadership

The Challenges of Digital Leadership | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
By far the most prevalent issue I see in schools struggling with their technology integration and implementation is the lack of a collective vision for how digital learning tools will be used to enhance learning. Schools often purchase software, computer devices, and technology-based learning systems because they are effective marketing tools for recruitment, or because they want to keep pace with the digital investments of rival institutions, or simply because they fear appearing outdated. None of these have to do with learning, of course, and inevitably are insufficient to smooth over the challenges that arise as digital tools enter classroom spaces.
