How to Create Moodle Badges

How to Create Moodle Badges | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Badges are new in Moodle 2.5+ . Badges are a great way to motivate users. They are an electronic way to demonstrate that you have mastered a specific skill. Moodle badges may be awarded based on a variety of criteria chosen by the teacher. You can upload your own images as badges or get them from a site such as Badges for Your Moodle.

Digital badges have been around for several years, but still have a way to go until they are fully integrated and recognized appropriately in education and in the world of work.  The fact that Moodle, a widely-used and free system for online instruction, has integrated them in their system is definitely a step in the RIGHT direction.  Go Moodle!

How do you motivate students who don't care about grades? You take a turn with badges in education and see how different results can come about.
rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, February 23, 2015 2:45 AM

Students have a particular liking for badges which they can flaunt to others. A badge is like a special privilege that all can see. I earned my badge after completing a MOOC session, although whether I will wear this badge is doubtful, but then for students at least it is about making the reward more attractive than just a certificate which will be put away in a folder or portfolio once it has been earned!

If you are interested in creating and using Digital Badges for your students this would be a good place to start (specifically focused on UK but can be adapted) The whole site is useful, has links to others.  I was looking for information about Employers and what they thought about Digital Badges.  It's a no brainer to me as I am using online tools all the time, UK HEIs should be jumping all over this.
