Instructional designers can help with many different course-based problems and challenges, including helping you figure out where and how to start with your course design. When a course is new or needs a little design love, knowing where to start can be difficult. By starting with your main goals and then moving to assessments and content, it is easier for your course to stay in alignment with your goals than working from topics and assessments to objectives. Starting is as easy as asking yourself one simple question.

Applying Design Thinking to the Course Creation Process

"When we hear or see the term ‘design thinking’ the first thing that often comes to mind is graphic design or web design — things that are more concerned about the visual aspect. While the approach itself is deeply utilized in graphic design best practices, it is not an exclusive process used solely by designers.

 

All innovations in different aspects of society have somehow used the design thinking process one way or another. Innovative works in literature, music, engineering, business, and art — just to name a few- have greatly drawn inspiration from this process.

 

So, what’s so special about it and why do we need to be more aware on how it is closely related to the training/learning process?"
