THE Podcast: Decolonising The Curriculum Times Higher Education podcast | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
What does it really mean to decolonise the curricula and pedagogy of higher education? Dr. Meera Sabaratnam, senior lecturer in international relations at SOAS University of London and chair of the decolonising SOAS working group joins the podcast to discuss what decolonising looks like in a UK context and how it goes well beyond just the content of a course.

Kaleke Kolawole, a graduate of the African studies master's programme at SOAS University of London and a facilitator for decolonising toolkits also joins to explain why this work should extend to secondary and primary education.

And Myriam Kane, a member of Goldsmiths Anti-Racist Action (GARA) and a former member of the National Union of Students' national executive council, gives a first-hand account of the 137-day student protest at Goldsmiths, University of London and why cultural competency training for all staff and annual funding specifically for black history events were among the protestors' demands

#5MinuteReflection 5: Embedding digital literary through your curriculum – | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

“How do I embed digital literacy into my curriculum?” This is a question we are being asked more and more frequently and as such, I felt it would serve as a good topic for a #5MinuteReflection. In this post I’m going to cover some key things to consider when redesigning your curriculum to include more digital skills.

In this post, I refer a lot to the wonderful JISC resource on Digital Capability, if you haven’t already had a look at this resource, I strongly recommend checking it out.

How to plan for learning

How to plan for learning  | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
It seems obvious. First, we should consider what we want students to learn and then we should figure out how we might teach it.

It is a model that is hard-wired into many lesson plan templates that ask teachers to first declare their learning objectives. My school is teaching a new physics course next year and our first step was to sit down and look at a list of the objectives across the year. Do they make sense? Are they coherent? Do they progress in a logical way? Are key concepts revisited? If we were to put it in psychological terms then we might ask: Does this sequence of objectives promote optimum schema building?

News & Events - Decolonising the curriculum: How far are we

News & Events - Decolonising the curriculum: How far are we | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
About five years ago, decolonising the South African education and curriculum in higher education was a critical topic in the higher education space. How far have the efforts went into implementing this process?

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) was one of the universities that echoed the bells for transforming the curriculum into an inclusive mix of Eurocentric and Afrocentric education. In its vision statement, UJ is "an international University of choice, anchored in Africa, dynamically shaping the future". It further states that it is proudly South African and "alive down to its African roots, and well-prepared for its role in actualising the potential that higher education holds for the continent's development".

Universal design for learning in curriculum planning and lesson design

Universal design for learning in curriculum planning and lesson design | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Does the everyday learning environment provide a range of supports to cater for student variability?

Universal Supports are those that exist in the learning environment, which the teacher does not have to think about or plan for daily. Thus, saving teachers time and energy.

They typically support Finance Assignment Help which are common to several learning activities. Universal Supports include the physical, emotional, and learning environment in the classroom as well as well-established systems and protocols that are so embedded they are simply ‘the way we do things around here’.
