When Max Schrems, an Austrian privacy activist, requested to see his personal data that Facebook stored on its servers, he was mailed a CD-ROM containing a 1,222-page document.
That file, which would stretch nearly a quarter of a mile if printed and laid end-to-end, offered a glimpse into Facebook's appetite for the private details of its 1.65 billion users.

But if you’ve been active online, either voluntarily or not, suddenly deciding to opt out of the online world isn’t easy. Google’s controversial ‘right to be forgotten’ process is unlikely to help you. Search engines are built to find you. Social media won’t let you go easily either.

You’ve got to delete, very extensively, everything on social media. Then try and remove all evidence from websites and blogs. And directories. And email providers. And search engines.
