Inclusion and Education | Global Education Monitoring Report

Inclusion and Education | Global Education Monitoring Report | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
In line with its mandate, the 2020 GEM Report assesses progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on education and its ten targets, as well as other related education targets in the SDG agenda. The Report also addresses inclusion in education, drawing attention to all those excluded from education, because of background or ability. The Report is motivated by the explicit reference to inclusion in the 2015 Incheon Declaration, and the call to ensure an inclusive and equitable quality education in the formulation of SDG 4, the global goal for education. It reminds us that, no matter what argument may be built to the contrary, we have a moral imperative to ensure every child has a right to an appropriate education of high quality.

Digital transformation in education: The FutureLearn view

Digital transformation in education: The FutureLearn view | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

In this piece, Nigel Smith of The Open University-owned FutureLearn, reflects on digital transformation in education over the past six years since MOOCs (massive open online courses) first burst onto the scene

There is no choice but to innovate in scaling the supply of education. Otherwise, people desperate to learn are excluded.

Digital transformation has had a huge impact on the education sector. Six years ago ‘MOOCs’ (Massive Open Online Courses) became a buzzword with the New York Times going so far as to say 2012 was “the year of the MOOC.”

5 Big Ideas In Education That Don't Work | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Small classes. High standards. More money. These popular remedies for school ills aren't as effective as they're sometimes thought to be. That's the somewhat controversial conclusion of education researcher John Hattie.

Over his career, Hattie has scrutinized more than 1,000 "meta-analyses," looking at all types of interventions to improve learning. The studies he's examined cover a combined 250 million students around the world.

Why Learning Anywhere is the Near-Future for HigherEd — The Higher Education Revolution — Medium

Why Learning Anywhere is the Near-Future for HigherEd - The Higher Education Revolution - Medium

Imagine yourself at 18 today. If you are lucky, you will be leaving a secondary education that was able to effectively instill knowledge while inspiring the curiosity and drive for more. Perhaps you have the motivation (whether innate or inspired) to explore more growth through the university system, but perhaps you look at the world around you with awe and wonder. With the latter perspective, you may see local or global issues and challenges as being ripe for critical thinking, even innovation and practice. (I understand that there is a rather large unlucky cohort that exits secondary schooling, with or without a diploma, but certainly without this level of inspiration and intrigue. I would posit, however, that this hypothetical perspective could still apply to them, or you if you would characterize yourself as such and happen to be reading this.) In any case, there is an evolving dynamic of education that would encourage you to embark down the winding, unknown path that this latter approach would lay at your feet.

How to Educate Yourself For the Future - InformED

How to Educate Yourself For the Future - InformED | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Here’s a scenario that will set your head spinning: In less time than it takes for a student to go through K-12 schooling, Uber created and eliminated an entire job market. The ride-hailing industry leader started in 2009, created thousands of jobs across the country, and is now introducing self-driving cars that will replace those jobs. In fact, a recent report from the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) showed that 40 per cent of jobs are in danger of becoming obsolete. This phenomenon is called the Law of Accelerating Change, and it’s not going to slow down any time soon. The only thing we can do to prepare for such change is to learn how to adapt to, better yet anticipate, it.
