Defining and teaching information literacy: Engaging faculty and the Framework | Dolinger | College & Research Libraries News

For librarians at Keene State College, the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education solidified moving away from one-shot instruction sessions and toward initiatives that would better integrate information literacy into the curriculum. This approach meant moving away from the idea that librarians must be teaching information literacy and instead adapting the idea that faculty within the discipline are best positioned to teach information literacy through their disciplinary context.

Yesterday I keynoted a virtual conference on digital literacy and fake news.  Actually, I helped organize an opening panel, then took notes on sessions, then offered a closing presentation.

Every time I visit a library (or even a library website) I can’t help but notice the digital workshops they offer, a side effect of being a former ICT librarian who now does innovation workshops for libraries as part of Artefacto. It’s impressive that, despite rounds of funding cuts and other obstacles, most libraries still manage to offer digital literacy services to their communities. Whether in the form of introductory classes, drop-in sessions and, increased privacy and online security awareness events.
