Digital student – what have we learned? | Jisc Digital Student | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
As part of the online learners’ study I was asked to write a short review of what the previous studies have taught us. Of course there is no substitute for engaging with that work, especially as each team took a different focus. The original HE study considered learners’ transactional and transformational engagements with technology, and how their expectations about learning with technology were set by their lecturers and the demands of their course. The FE study looked more closely at how learners differ among themselves, whether they are ‘mainstream pragmatists’, digital pioneers, or have various kinds of digital disadvantage. The Skills study looked particularly at the interface between learning and work.

Survey of university libraries finds diversity developing by institutional type | Inside Higher Ed | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Library directors and administrators at all types of colleges and universities agree their libraries should teach undergraduates research skills and information literacy, but the Ithaka S+R Library Survey 2013 also suggests libraries are increasingly tailoring their services to address institutional needs.

Ithaka, a nonprofit research organization that promotes innovative forms of teaching and scholarly communication, previously surveyed library directors in 2010. That survey captured libraries in the middle of a difficult transition from print to electronic resources. Based on the responses of 499 institutions in the fall 2013 survey, that shift has been, “from a budget allocation perspective, nearly completed.”

Evaluating Your College’s Readiness for Technology Adoption - Academic Commons

Understanding the likelihood of successful adoption before embarking on a reform can help colleges invest wisely in new technologies. Based on CCRC’s Readiness for Technology Adoption (RTA) framework, this self-assessment tool is designed to help colleges develop a nuanced picture of their overall readiness for technology adoption.
The RTA framework consists of four broad areas of readiness, addressing technological and cultural factors at both the institutional and project levels. For each area, the self-assessment tool provides a rubric listing the components of readiness and describing the features of institutions that are minimally ready and those that are poised for action.
This tool is designed to encourage conversations among individuals within an institution. Engaging in the self-assessment process will help colleges identify additional steps they may need to take before beginning a technology-related reform.
