It is a public school with no classrooms, school bells, year levels or exams — as we know them.

Opening next week in Sydney, Lindfield Learning Village promises to break the mould and "change the measures of success", according to its principal.

"The education system we currently have in place was developed over 100 years ago to produce factory workers, and obviously that's not what we need to be producing in this era," said principal Stephanie McConnell, one of the architects of the new education model.

Ms McConnell gave 7.30 an exclusive first look inside the new school, which will open its doors to students from kindergarten to year 10 next week. Eventually it will host students up to year 12.

“I think it is likely in the next 200 years or so Homo sapiens will upgrade themselves into some idea of a divine being, either through biological manipulation or genetic engineering of by the creation of cyborgs, part organic part non-organic. But we will be as different from today’s humans as chimps are now from us.”

According to CSIRO’s likeable chief executive Larry Marshall, Australia’s current collaboration and commercialisation levels can be blamed on the lack of alignment between scientists, universities, businesses, and government.

With Bees Scarce, A Drone Pollinates A New York Apple Orchard - Futurism

With Bees Scarce, A Drone Pollinates A New York Apple Orchard - Futurism | Innovation - what's all the fuss ? | Scoop.it
Gather ‘round! Let me tell you the story of Droney Appleseed.

You see, in the 21st century, bee populations were dying off because everyone was using too many toxic pesticides. Farmers were starting to notice that the fuzzy little workers were starting to vanish because their crops weren’t getting pollinated. Boy, was everyone in a real pickle then! Thankfully, Droney Appleseed came to the rescue, flying over the farmland and spraying pollen wherever it went.

OK, so, we’re probably not ready to make children’s books about this stuff quite yet. But! An apple orchard was just pollinated by a drone for the first time.

4 Ways to Build an Innovative Team

4 Ways to Build an Innovative Team | Innovation - what's all the fuss ? | Scoop.it

One of the most common questions I get asked by senior managers is “How can we find more innovative people?” I know the type they have in mind — someone energetic and dynamic, full of ideas and able to present them powerfully. It seems like everybody these days is looking for an early version of Steve Jobs.

Yet in researching my book, Mapping Innovation, I found that most great innovators were nothing like the mercurial stereotype. In fact, almost all of them were kind, generous, and interested in what I was doing. Many were soft-spoken and modest. You would notice very few of them in a crowded room.

So the simplest answer is that you need to start by empowering the people already in your organization. But to do that, you need to take responsibility for creating an environment in which your people can thrive. That’s no simple task, and most managers have difficulty with it. Nevertheless, by following a few simple principles you can make a huge difference.
