How our remote team works better together: Snapchat as an internal communications tool | Close.io | Internal Communications Tools | Scoop.it

"Today, companies use tools such as Slack, Zoom, Basecamp, Hackpad, Timezone.io to keep communication channels open and active across teams and timezones.

And while the software stack for internal communications is impressive, it comes with one huge flaw: it lacks a genuine human connection.  This is where Snapchat comes in."

  • How it allows them to build better relationships between each other not only as a team, but also as individuals.
    • It removes friction
    • It's instant

    • You can’t group snap
Kim Zinke (aka Gimli Goose)'s insight:

Other reasons Snapchat works well as an internal communications tool is it offers some lighthearted fun, it only takes a few seconds to create and consume, and it's user generated.

Snapchat is free to use.  I've been playing with it for a few weeks using the iPhone app.  I don't find it very intuitive so the learning curve has been longer than I'm accustomed to.  Once you get into the swing of things it's a lot of fun!

Not using G+ Hangouts yet? You don't want to be old school do you? | What's Next Blog | Internal Communications Tools | Scoop.it

"Organizations large and small – like the 26 I interviewed for this post – have come up with creative ways to use the Hangout platform. For example, global social advertising technology company Unruly, with offices in London and New York, keeps a Hangout open all day so staff in both offices can easily strategize and schmooze as if they were in the same office. Others do onboarding and continuing education via Hangouts, and some create wire frames, flow charts, mind maps and more in Hangouts."

Internal Communications Best Practices: Reaching Employees Who Do Not Have Email Access | The Communications Blog | Internal Communications Tools | Scoop.it

Kim Zinke (aka Gimli Goose)'s insight:

The line from the article that resonated for me was "The irony is that the “old ways” of communicating, such as face-to-face, almost need to be re-learned."

The more we become reliant on technology to communicate the more we seem to forget how to interact with one another.  Maybe we need our own communications version of Miss Manners.

Develop an internal communications plan to engage remote teams | MUIPR

Develop an internal communications plan to engage remote teams | MUIPR | Internal Communications Tools | Scoop.it

"It’s difficult to maintain an effective line of communication with remote team members. It’s even more difficult to engage them.

Companies with virtual teams aren’t the only ones having a difficult time engaging workers. Aside from issues with engagement, there’s the problem with communications in general — the day-to-day issues that result from not having direct access to team members. Remote teams rely heavily on email. Despite the speed at which an email travels to an inbox, emails are often poorly written and don’t clearly convey the intended message. This leads, naturally, to more emails.

Employee engagement programs fill the large virtual space that exists between on-site and remote teams. Your engagement plan, whether it includes a single form or multiple forms of communication, should have the singular goal of solving your most prevalent communications problems."

  • newsletters
  • social media
  • company blog
