Kahoot is a very popular platform in which students are very engaged and can use as a study tool.
Kye Medhurst's curator insight, June 4, 2022 2:10 AM

The task of learning essential creative skills is transformed from boring written material work to an engaging, student-centric experience. The online resources are strongly combined into the learning sequence for the year 10 geography classroom. The online resources establish provide the task with the most appropriate design for students to use. For my curator insight the first resource I found was google classroom. My insight explains how the resource of google classroom can be used to support awareness into the sorts of materials, tools and equipment that students can used in classroom environments globally. Google classroom provides an online space where students can access digital work. Students do not have to be at school to access this online platform giving them additional time for working on online projects as they can access it from home. Teachers can also provide students with specific instruction for certain task benefiting the student’s knowledge on the task at hand. The online site allows for online platform sharing so students can publish their work whenever they want.

This resource has shown to be incredibly useful in the creation of my mini-unit. I will be useful Kahoot quite often in the classroom as it useful for rapid recall which can assist students in retaining key information. It is also very engaging for students.

Defining Formative Assessment

Overall, we’ve done a good job helping students “learn how to learn.” One of the biggest growth opportunities today is to help teachers and students to “know how they know.”

Educators skilled at designing formative assessment practice are able to understand where students are and where they need to be on a daily basis and adapt learning experiences accordingly.

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) recently adopted the following definition of formative assessment:

Formative assessment is a planned, ongoing process used by all students and teachers during learning and teaching to elicit and use evidence of student learning to improve student understanding of intended disciplinary learning outcomes, and support students to become more self-directed learners.

In this vast digital age, there is more information available than can ever possibly be processed, and the way that students vet this data is incredibly important. While the internet has opened up the world in amazing and beautiful ways, it has also skewed the way information is obtained. Instant knowledge, or perceived knowledge, is available as soon as kids are old enough to type in a computer password or swipe the lock screen of a tablet or smartphone. A resource of 17 tools that inform teachers about how students process information. I liked the quote about the fact that teachers don't create learning the learners do and as teachers they encourage and facilitate that. I think that is an interesting perspective to take on teaching and some of the tools are also worth a look!

Executive Summary: Evaluating Information

Over the last year and a half, the Stanford History Education Group has prototyped, field tested, and validated a bank of assessments that tap civic online reasoning—the ability to judge the credibility of information that floods young people’s smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Between January 2015 and June 2016, we administered 56 tasks to students across 12 states. In total, we collected and analyzed 7,804 student responses. Our sites for fieldtesting included under-resourced, inner-city schools in Los Angeles and well-resourced schools in suburbs outside of Minneapolis. Our college assessments, which focused on open web searches, were administered online at six different universities that ranged from Stanford, an institution that rejects 94% of its applicants, to large state universities that admit the majority of students who apply.

In what follows, we provide an overview of what we learned and sketch paths our future work might take. We end by providing samples of our assessments of civic online reasoning.

Student Agency: What Do Students Want to Create to Demonstrate Their Learning?  (Don't just differentiate the task - differentiate the assessment)  by Catlin Tucker

Student Agency: What Do Students Want to Create to Demonstrate Their Learning?  (Don't just differentiate the task - differentiate the assessment)  by Catlin Tucker | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

"In my blog post titled “3 Ways to Build Student Agency into Your Lessons,” I encouraged teachers to design lessons that allow students to make key decisions about their learning. Student agency is one of the easiest ways that teachers can begin to personalize learning. If students are invited to make decisions about the subject or topic they focus on, how they complete a task, or what they produce to demonstrate their learning, the learning path and products will be different for individual students.

"In addition to personalizing learning, giving students agency is a powerful motivator. When students are given opportunities to select the lens they look through or decide how they want to approach a task, they are more likely to be interested and engaged in the learning.

"A simple strategy for increasing student agency in your classroom is to provide students with a choice board of options they can choose from to demonstrate their learning at the end of an investigation, unit, or project."

"Given class sizes, teaching loads, and a host of other academic responsibilities, many teachers feel as though multiple-choice tests are the only viable option. Their widespread use justifies a regular review of those features that make these tests an effective way to assess learning and ongoing consideration of those features that compromise how much learning they promote."

The Best Self-Assessment Questions for Encouraging a Growth Mindset

The Best Self-Assessment Questions for Encouraging a Growth Mindset | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
There is no topic in education that is more furiously debated than assessment. Of course, self-assessment tends to raise even more alarm bells. The notion of students assessing themselves is difficult for many educators to get around, but they’re warming to the idea. If our students learn to ask the right self-assessment questions and keep themselves accountable, the results in learning improvement can be amazing.

Our role as teachers is not only depositing the knowledge in our students, it is our duty as a part of the learning process to assess that cognitive growth; moreover, applying an assessment to their learning progress help us to identify their weaknesses as well as our mistakes in the teaching process. Therefore, this article provides us useful information to keep in mind those aspects with assessment and evaluation in the classroom.

Thank you for this one! Anything like this that is straight forward and free of technical jargon is most welcome in my book.  I'm quite positive a high falutin' professor could very easily bore us to tears with reams and reams of academic justification backed by decades of research  to tell us these points. Interesting though that is... Thankfully you've scooped a classroom teachers perspective. Hallelujah! 5 points that speak directly to a teacher starting out in the profession. I'm your new fan.
