iPad provides endless learning possibilities for students. From apps to help with learning math and science to apps for doing 3D anatomy and virtual field trips, you name it, the educational app store has probably an app for it. The theme for our list today is motivation. We believe that motivation is the backbone of learning and with motivation comes engagement and better performance. To this end, we are sharing with you some excellent iPad apps with huge motivational potential. You can use these apps with students to engage them in hands-on learning activities across different disciplines. We have particularly focused on creation apps that allow students to create learning materials using a mixture of multimedia content.

According to Apple, more than a million dedicated iPad apps have been released worldwide. The right app can transform the iPad, regardless of its size, into nearly anything you desire. Want to look for a job? Download the LinkedIn app. Want to whip up phat beats during the subway commute? Download GarageBand. Any task you want to do, there's probably an app for that.

However, there's a downside: app discovery. How do you navigate all the iPad-optimized apps to find those worth downloading? Easy. Read PCMag.com's picks. Our staff has tested hundreds of iPad apps and highlighted the best of the best. If you're a glutton for punishment, you could dig through the depths of the App Store for user reviews, but that demands a lot of time. For this week's Apps Gone Free series we brought a number of interesting apps that on sale today and only for a limited period of time. Some of the things you can do with these apps include: record notes in a clean and distraction-free interface, design awesome back and white photos to share with others; an interactive puzzle game to help kids learn new words; engaging activities and challenges to help children lear basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and finally a sophisticated scientific calculator that ‘makes doing math look like art’.
