WordPress sites under attack as hacker group tries to create rogue admin accounts | #CyberSecurity #SocialMedia #Blogs | KILUVU | Scoop.it

  1. A hacker group is exploiting vulnerabilities in more than ten WordPress plugins to create rogue admin accounts on WordPress sites across the internet.

The attacks are an escalation part of a hacking campaign that started last month. During previous attacks, the hackers exploited vulnerabilities in the same plugins to plant malicious code on the hacked sites. This code was meant to show popup ads or to redirect incoming visitors to other websites.

However, two weeks ago, the group behind these attacks changed its tactics. Mikey Veenstra, a threat analyst with cybersecurity firm Defiant, told ZDNet today that starting with August 20, the hacker group modified the malicious code planted on hacked sites.

Instead of just inserting pop-ups and redirects, the malicious code also ran a function in order to test if the site visitor had the ability to create user accounts on the site, a feature only available for WordPress admin accounts.

Art and Technology: A Crucial Marriage in a Post-Digital Society | By Paola Perrin de Brichambaut

Art and Technology: A Crucial Marriage in a Post-Digital Society | By Paola Perrin de Brichambaut | KILUVU | Scoop.it

Art and technology. At first these disciplines may seem distant, their link dubious, and yet they share a rich history and today are increasingly intertwined. An example of the intricate relationship between the two would be the invention of photography at the beginning of the nineteenth century, a defining moment in the history of fine arts, which provided the impetus that pushed painting beyond figuration and would eventually become an art canon in its own right. Nowadays, various technological ventures are considered artworks. From light installations to websites, technology has established itself as both a diverse artistic medium and the subject of numerous works of art, and has come to enormously enrich the art world.

A quick look at the beginning of relationship between art and tech emphasises the general positive aspects that have arisen from the union. The 1968 show Cybernetic Serendipity, first held at the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) in London, was a pioneer in the symbiosis of technology and art. An exhibition dedicated to cybernetic art, it highlighted the opportunities computers opened up for creative production, ranging from music to writing and the visual arts...

The Transition from Blogger To Business Owner

The Transition from Blogger To Business Owner | KILUVU | Scoop.it
When I started out blogging back in 2013, I never thought I would call myself a business owner. This is my journey from blogger to business owner

Via janlgordon, massimo facchinetti
janlgordon's curator insight, March 22, 2017 5:15 PM

I selected this article from Curatti written by Ashley Faulkes because it explains the process of running a blog and then turning it into a business.

The story of how one blogger became a businessman.

Going From Blogger to Business Owner

Starting a blog can involve a lot of learning curves along the way. I agree that content marketers need to fully understand digital marketing in order to be successful in business.

Faulkes provides his own perspective on what it takes to run a successful blogging business.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Start by learning as much as you can from leading blogging experts. Then brush up on your digital marketing skills in areas like social media, SEO, and email marketing.

  • It is not enough to just have a blog. Your business needs to be running your content, not the other way around. If you lack skills you just need to learn more.

  • When attending a conference hang out with a few like-minded individuals who will push you to grow. Read as much as you can about the topic of blogging for business.

What is…robotic art? Art Radar explains | by C. A. Xuan Mai Ardia in Art Radar (2014) | KILUVU | Scoop.it

Robotic art is a type of art that makes use of robotics or machine and automated technology, coupled with computer technology and sensors. Robotic art generally falls under the broader umbrella of kinetic art, which includes art that uses mechanical elements, such as motors, machines and electrically powered systems, but doesn’t necessarily include a computer programme.

With the rise in electronic media and technology in art, robotics has become a popular medium of experimentation. Robotic art can be traced back through history to the first hydraulic sculptures while the genesis of contemporary robotic art can be pinpointed to the 1960s...

Des astuces pour utiliser les BLOGS dans la pédagogie

Deanne LaRoche's curator insight, May 28, 2017 9:43 PM

Having only recently for the first time taken up Blogging for an assessment item, I have become aware of its benefits in the classroom.  This diagram shows more ways in which it can be useful than I originally had realised and as such, I have now decided that adding a reflective Blog into my teaching will be of benefit to the students.  The ability to be in connection with others worldwide, will open students up to new possibilities.  I hope also then, that my Blogs and my students Blogs will benefit the wider community also.  I am reminded though that I need to ensure that the online environment that my students are involved in is a safe environment.

"Arcade City" Is a #Blockchain-Based Ride-Sharing Uber Killer

"Arcade City" Is a #Blockchain-Based Ride-Sharing Uber Killer | KILUVU | Scoop.it

Christopher David thinks Uber and Lyft are already relics. He’s created a ride-sharing app that drivers, themselves, will one day own, and he’s gamified the app in the process. Arcade City is the name of the game, and – if David continues to coax this fledgling app out of its nest – it could pose a threat to these established industry leaders.

From their inceptions, Uber and Lyft have made driver recruitment a beautiful, enticing process: Sign on and we’ll give you $500, they say. What these companies don’t explain, except perhaps in the small print, is that these perks are ephemeral, that they can lure drivers in and then cut rates or increase the amount they, Uber and Lyft, pocket at any time they chose.

And that’s just what happened in early January this year: Uber trimmed down on fares, then Lyft followed suit. Drivers nationwide complained and then protested. In their eyes, “trimming fares” just meant “slashing wages.” But these protests were altogether ineffective. ...

Art Workers: Between Utopia and the Archive by Boris Groys | e-flux (2013)

Art Workers: Between Utopia and the Archive by Boris Groys | e-flux (2013) | KILUVU | Scoop.it

The topic of this essay is artistic work. I am not, of course, an artist. But in spite of being quite specific in some respects, artistic work is not fully autonomous. It relies on the more general—social, economic, technical, and political—conditions of art production, distribution, and presentation. During recent decades these conditions have changed drastically, due first and foremost to the emergence of the internet.

In the period of modernity, the museum was the institution that defined the dominant regime under which art functioned. But in our day, the internet offers an alternative possibility for art production and distribution—a possibility that the permanently growing number of artists embrace. What are the reasons to like the internet, especially for artists, writers, and so forth? ...
