Millennial Appeal: How to Design a Website to Attract the Younger Audience

Millennial Appeal: How to Design a Website to Attract the Younger Audience | KILUVU | Scoop.it

As Baby Boomers slowly make their exit and Generation X and Millennials emerge, you need to take this into consideration when deciding how you’d like your website to be designed. The younger audience is much more tech savvy than previous generations, and their values and styles of shopping and using the internet have changed. In summary, millennials are after a few things: fast and convenient information, content that’s funny and personal, and products and services that focus on their long term goals rather than instant gratification. Let’s break down further how you can specifically build a website that attracts the younger audience.

Millennials Rely On Social Media For News

Millennials Rely On Social Media For News | KILUVU | Scoop.it
Today's younger generation has a reputation of being glued to the cellphones and tablets. It's where they chat with their friends, find out the latest hot spots in town and, believe it or not, keep up with the world. In their own way, of course.

Probably not news to most of us (no pun intended), since it seems to me that millennials thrive on immediacy of news, and attribute well served by social media. The desire (or even recognition) for accuracy, or journalistic insight, appears to be less important. But maybe my perspective is influenced by my 17-year career at Reuters, where accuracy always took precedent over timeliness.

Surprising Findings on Social Media Usage

Surprising Findings on Social Media Usage | KILUVU | Scoop.it

I selected this article from Curatti written by Raymond Morin because it explains the latest results by Nielsen on the habits of social media users.

The biggest audience on social media is not millennials after all.

The Changing Landscape in Marketing Online

People between the ages of 35 and 50 spend the most amount of time on social networks. I agree that this reveals the younger generation prefer to spend their time on mobile devices.

Morin explains the details of the study and explains how brands need to respect the values of their community with genuine interactions on social media.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The use of social media differs according to the type of platform that is used. For example, on Facebook 178.8 million users log on with their smart phone in the U.S.

  • Depending on the nature of the social network, the nature of the users also changes. They will interact in different ways with brands.

  • Generations also have differences. Millenials are most likely to follow a business to gather information about them and to be entertained. Gen X'rs tend to follow for promotions, and Baby Boomers follow for promotions and information.
