A great ICT tool to use during brain storms, collecting information, sorting information, understanding information, or explaining a concept. Visual and involved program that engages students in their learning.

Daniel Ramirez's curator insight, May 20, 2015 8:09 PM

Learning through blogging as part of a connectivist MOOC

Learning through blogging as part of a connectivist MOOC | Learning, Teaching & Leading Today | Scoop.it

"My [Sue Waters] session was meant to be an Introduction to blogging.

I’ve spent the week interacting with #ETMOOC participants through their blogs,  Google+ community and through the ETMOOC Twitter hashtag to identify what they really needed to know.

All participants have been ask to participate through their own blogs.  Quite a few participants are new to blogging and it’s really hard to appreciate how you might learn through blogging as part of a connectivist MOOC if you’ve never blogged before.

So I’ve decided to focus my session on what they really need to know to get the most out of their blogging as part of #ETMOOC;  as opposed to a more traditional introduction to blogging session.

More of an intro to the pedagogical aspects of blogging as opposed to the technical."

"It is amazing the accomplishments that I have achieved in the last two weeks, while starting two Educational Technology grad courses.

MY TOP 10 ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

1. Took part in three ETMOOC sessions.

2. Was able to navigate into Blackboard Collaborate.  This seemed to work easier on my Mac laptop than on my IMAC due to some downloading issues with Java.

3. Started using Twitter, unlocked my account and began sending tweets.

Tech Transformation: Using Technology -v- Integrating Technology

Tech Transformation: Using Technology -v- Integrating Technology | Learning, Teaching & Leading Today | Scoop.it
"It's very clear to me that there is a vast difference between using technology and integrating technology. Many schools who claim to be integrating technology are, in my opinion, simply using it, because they have not yet questioned and identified the reasons for using technology. Indeed I've come across administrators in those schools who have been unable to articulate the ways that technology can transform learning - they are still talking about it "enhancing" learning or calling technology "a tool". In such places, it's not surprising to find that some teachers are simply using technology for technology's sake, without developing the habits of mind necessary for the true embedding of technology into their pedagogy. On the other hand, as Kip Rogers writes, I've also experienced schools and classrooms where:"

Guided Access: iOS 6 Accessibility Feature Can Support Learning

Guided Access: iOS 6 Accessibility Feature Can Support Learning | Learning, Teaching & Leading Today | Scoop.it

"I [Paul Hamilton] support some non-speaking children who are learning to use the iPad as a communication device. Sometimes, these learners are inclined to ignore their communication apps because they much prefer other apps. These preferred apps may be worthwhile, but they can get in the way of learning to use the device for its primary purpose. In iOS 6, Apple has introduced an accessibility feature that can help.

Guided Access makes it possible to keep the iPad in a single app, and to control which features of an app are available to a user. In the case above, the iPad might be configured as a dedicated communication device until the user has learned to use it for effective communication. This is only one of many potential situations where Guided Access might be helpful. Of course, Guided Access is also available on the iPhone or iPod Touch."

#ETMOOC | A MOOC about educational technology & media – Coming January 2013

MOOC = Massive Open Online Course

"This space will act as an information hub for #etmooc, an open, online experience that is designed to facilitate & nurture conversations around the thoughtful integration of educational technology & media in teaching and learning.

Think of #etmooc as an experience situated somewhere between a course and a community. While there will be scheduled webinars and information shared each week, we know that there is a lot more that we will collectively need to do if we want to create a truly collaborative and passionate community.

We’re aiming to carry on those important conversations in many different spaces – through the use of social networks, collaborative tools, shared hashtags, and in personalized spaces. What #etmooc eventually becomes, and what it will mean to you, will depend upon the ways in which you participate and the participation and activities of all of its members. Let’s see if we can create something that is not just another hashtag – and, not just another course.

Some exciting topics will be explored during the #etmooc experience. We’ll be leading conversations around many of the recently popularized technologies, media and literacies including social/participatory media, blended/online learning environments, digital literacies, open education, digital citizenship/identity, copyright/copyleft, and multimedia in education. We hope that this list of topics will grow as we expand our membership and tap into the expertise of our participants. However it is not the topics that we cover, but it is what we discover, create and share together that will be critical to the success of the etmooc experience."

"Topics & Tentative Schedule (Revised as of January 9, 2013)

The 2013 tentative schedule of topics is found below. More detailed information will be provided soon, including exact dates and connection information. Each topic is 2 weeks long so that there is adequate attention and depth.

Welcome (Jan 13-19): Welcome Event & Orientation to #etmooc

Topic 1 (Jan 20-Feb. 2): Connected Learning – Tools, Processes & Pedagogy

Topic 2 (Feb 3-16): Digital Storytelling – Multimedia, Remixes & Mashups

Topic 3 (Feb 17-Mar 2): Digital Literacy – Information, Memes & Attention

Topic 4 (Mar 3-16): The Open Movement – Open Access, OERs & Future of Ed.

Topic 5 (Mar 17-30): Digital Citizenship – Identity, Footprint, & Social Activism

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators | Learning, Teaching & Leading Today | Scoop.it

TWITTER TRANSFORMS EDUCATORS

Before the advent of Twitter, most educators I know had limited opportunities to collaborate with colleagues outside their building. Some subscribed to listservs or participated in online forums, but these outlets lacked critical mass; teachers also networked at in-person conferences and training sessions, but these isolated events didn't provide ongoing support.

Enter Twitter. I've heard many educators say that Twitter is the most effective way to collaborate and that they've learned more with Twitter than they have from years of formal professional development.

Here are some of the specific ways educators are using Twitter to collaborate:

Sonia Thomas's curator insight, May 27, 2013 6:53 PM

Twitter provides a great opportunity to collaborate with educators outside of your local physical community. The exchange of ideas and perspectives can reenergize your career. “Twitter is often just the introduction — the virtual handshake that opens the door to a deeper collaboration”
