Deserted London 2012? | London Olympics 2012 controversies | Scoop.it
Messages to stay away from London and other key venues have worked too well, with visitor numbers suffering catastrophic falls.

Is it more scare mongering from the Daily Mail or are London's streets, hotels and restaurants really empty?

Saudi Arabian hijab row resolved?

Saudi Arabian hijab row resolved? | London Olympics 2012 controversies | Scoop.it
Saudi Arabia judoka Wojdan Shaherkani will compete at the Olympics after a row over the wearing of a hijab is resolved.

On the one hand the fact that this woman could participate is cool. On the other hand, why should this flexibility in interpreting the rules come from Judo and not from Religion? Is there a universal rule stating that religion CANNOT be flexible? What do you think?

3 Social Media Lessons From the Olympics

3 Social Media Lessons From the Olympics | London Olympics 2012 controversies | Scoop.it
There are lessons business owners can glean from Olympian social media mistakes. Some strategies for your business marketing efforts.

Freedom of speech doesn't extend to Twitter : controversial tweets, as Olympians Papachristou and Morganella, can get you disqualified or worse, get you arrested (see Tom Daley article).

Looks as if Olympic athletes are going to have to add social media training and preparation to their training plans if they want to get through the socialympics.

And as for the rest of us, we need to work at it too.

Olympic legacy: White elephant or economic viagra?

Olympic legacy: White elephant or economic viagra? | London Olympics 2012 controversies | Scoop.it
Team GB have enjoyed great success but the government wants the longer-term economic legacy to be just as productive.

TeamGB success has definitely provided a much needed boost to British moral, despite the fact that London became a showcase of corporate branding & entertainment

But sure that we'll soon come down again and remember the 13Bn spent, the jobs that haven't been created and the economy that has seen no real stimulation.

Sniffy French rivals have raised eyebrows – and suspicions – about Team GB’s ‘outrageous’ Olympics success.

The London Olympics will be officially conducted in French with English as its second language, according to previously secret contracts seen by The Daily Telegraph.

If that's the case, how come French was left off the commentary during yesterday's athletics races and competitions? Can't find an article on last night's mess up but can somebody please tell me if I'm going mad? WHY WAS NO FRENCH USED?

"American judo fighter Nicholas Delpopolo has been expelled from the London Olympics after testing positive for cannabis."

Dumb ass move from Delpopolo, all that training just to go and blow it on a bit of weed! But seriously, can you really argue that cannabis a performance enhancing drug? On a more worrying note, apparently you can smoke dope and still perform to Olympics athlete level? What do you think?

London 2012 Olympics: You took money, we'll have gold: Hollande's taunt over empty seats | London Olympics 2012 controversies | Scoop.it
François Hollande, the French president, has blamed the empty seats at Olympics venues on the greed of organisers who gave too many tickets to corporate sponsors.

Hollande's talk of gold medals puts him in a delicate position as both countries battle it out for 3rd and 4th place in medal tables.
