In a joined initiative with the national research fund (FNR) and Luxinnovation, the economy ministry on 25 July said it would fund research projects that require high-performance computing (HPC) capacity.

The funding opportunity aims to stimulate collaborative research and development projects in manufacturing, advanced engineering, materials, energy and environmental technology, and telecommunications through public-private partnerships with companies that to rely on support from a public research institute.

Immer mehr Kandidaturen für „Fit4Start“ von Luxinnovation
Zehn Stunden lang dauerten am Montag die „Pitches“, bei denen sich 29 junge Unternehmen der Jury sich und ihr Projekt vorstellten. Sie hatten es unter 163 Kandidaten aus ganz Europa (39 Prozent stammten aus Luxemburg) in die „Pitch“-Runde geschafft, bei der am Ende zehn Auserwählte übrig blieben (s. Kasten). Für sie beginn nun im April ein 16wöchiges „Coaching“-Programm durch Experten. Außerdem bekommen sie einen Platz in einem Inkubator und 50.000 Euro für die Entwicklung von Prototypen und Marktstudien.

Sie gefielen den Jurys am besten und werden nun ab Mitte April von Experten gecoached:

B2B Pay (Deutschland, virtuelle Bankkonten), Univize (Luxemburg, Online-Plattform, die Studenten hilft, die richtige Uni zu finden), bNesis (Polen, Vereinfachung des Kreditgeschäfts), MyMedBot (Luxemburg, informiert Diabetiker und Außenstehende bei Insulinnotstand), Salonkee (Luxemburg, Künstliche Intelligenz-basierter Schönheitsberater), HOPES (Frankreich, berechnet den individuellen Energieverbrauch), Inkspired (Ecuador, „Self-Publishing“-Plattform für angehende Schriftsteller), IntegerAI (Grossbritannien, Optimierung der Büroarbeit), Metri (Finnland, Anzeigenresultatemessung auf verschiedenen Plattformen), Machinations (Rumänien, „Cloud“-basiertes Hilfsprogramm für die Entwicklung digitaler Spiele).

The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy, Chamber of Trade, Chamber of Commerce and Luxinnovation today presented a digitalisation programme for SMEs.

On 18 January 2018, the Ministry of the Economy, the Chambers of Trade and Commerce and the national innovation promotion agency Luxinnovation presented a digitalisation programme to advance the digital transition of small and medium-sized enterprises and to enable them to make the best use of the possibilities offered by digital technology.

Within this programme, the Chamber of Trade with its "eHandwierk" service and the Chamber of Commerce with its "Go Digital" team each propose an initiative to make companies aware of the challenges of digitalisation and to inform, guide and advise them in their efforts to this end. The expert diagnostic phase and the subsequent implementation phase are proposed in collaboration with Luxinnovation. In these two stages, the professional chambers rely on the "Fit 4 Digital" service offer developed by Luxinnovation to help SMEs take advantage of digital technologies.

During their digitisation process, companies can benefit from various financial assistance from the Ministry of the Economy, including the assumption of diagnostic costs up to €5,000. An information sheet on assistance for SMEs can be consulted on Guichet.lu.

Attracting startups to Luxembourg

Luxinnovation has recently seen its mission enlarged by the Ministry of the Economy in order to promote Luxembourg as a European hub for high-performance businesses and economic activities. The country is stepping up its efforts to attract foreign direct investment in a variety of fields (ICT, Automotive, Space, Manufacturing, and Cleantech to name but a few). This sector-driven approach will be complemented with actions aiming to attract new disruptive businesses in numerous areas (Fintech Regtech, Data-analytics…).

In this context, the “Fit 4 Start” programme could be considered as a “pilot initiative” to attract new ICT business. Launched by Luxinnovation in 2015, it successfully contributes to the visibility of Luxembourg on the international startup scene.

Emilie Bechet: The Luxembourg Open Innovation Club (Loic) was created two years ago by nyuko, Lux Future Lab, Technoport and Luxinnovation. Loic was launched to bridge the gap between the creativity of international startups and Luxembourgish corporate innovation.

Committed primarily to human relationships, Loic brings together more than 20 corporate members from diverse backgrounds and experiences that are interested in transforming their organisations through open innovation.

Die Idee ist zu gut: Altes Plastik schreddern, einen 3-D-Drucker damit füttern – und etwas ganz Neues drucken. Claude Wolf, der angehende Maschinenbau-Ingenieure an der Universität Luxemburg unterrichtet, hat sie gemeinsam mit dem Technoport FabLab und dem EcoInnovation Cluster von Luxinnovation umgesetzt, unterstützt vom „Fonds National de la Recherche“.

Vor gut einem Jahr ging das als Projekt „Fused Deposition Modeling“ (FDM) durch die Presse. Seither ist es still geworden. Warum? „Das Projekt wurde eigentlich zur Sensibilisierung der Studenten für Recycling und ‚Circular Economy‘ durchgeführt. Aber es gab auch das Ziel, die Ausbildungswege der Universität klarer und bekannter zu machen. Alle diese Ziele wurden erreicht“, meint Wolf. Er hat mit seinen Studenten sowohl den Schredder als auch den 3-D-Drucker entwickelt. „Wir haben das auf mehreren Messen und in Lyzeen gezeigt. Was wir aber sehen, ist ein echtes Interesse der Studenten, 3-D zu drucken und zu recyceln.“ Gerade die Generation Z sei interessiert an Projekten, hinter denen auch ein Sinn steht, hat er beobachtet.

Es wäre angesichts der Idee nur normal, wenn sie auch genutzt würde. Doch bislang gibt es keinen industriellen Partner. „Wir haben zu wenig Mittel und zu wenig Zeit“, bedauert Wolf, der die meiste Zeit mit dem Unterricht verbringt. Er hatte Kontakt mit dem Unternehmen Husky, das unter anderem PET-Flaschen herstellt. Husky stellt ihm verschiedene Polymere für Tests zur Verfügung. „Aber wir sind noch nicht auf industriellem Niveau“, bedauert der Wissenschaftler. Auch mit französischen Unternehmen hatte er Kontakt, ohne dass es zu einer Übernahme der Idee kam. „Dabei könnte es wirklich interessant sein“, ist Wolf überzeugt.

Deshalb hat er sowohl die Pläne für die Maschine als auch die Möglichkeiten als „Open Source“ gratis im Internet zur Verfügung gestellt. So könnte es doch noch zu einer industriellen Nutzung kommen.

En date du 18 janvier 2018, le ministère de l’Économie, la Chambre des métiers, la Chambre de commerce et l’agence nationale de promotion de l’innovation Luxinnovation ont présenté un programme de digitalisation des PME destiné à faire progresser la transition digitale au sein des petites et moyennes entreprises et à leur permettre d’utiliser au mieux les possibilités offertes par le numérique.

S’adressant aux PME relevant des secteurs du commerce, de l'industrie, de l'artisanat et de l'horeca, l’assistance apportée aux entreprises comprend plusieurs étapes : la sensibilisation et l’information quant aux enjeux de la digitalisation, un diagnostic professionnel de l’entreprise avec formulation de recommandations, ainsi qu’un accompagnement lors de la mise en œuvre des solutions proposées.

Au sein de ce programme, la Chambre des métiers avec son service "eHandwierk" et la Chambre de commerce avec son équipe "Go Digital" proposent chacune une initiative adaptée aux besoins de leurs ressortissants pour sensibiliser les entreprises aux défis de la digitalisation et pour les informer, les orienter et les conseiller dans leurs démarches en ce sens.

La phase de diagnostic par un expert ainsi que la phase subséquente de mise en œuvre sont proposées en collaboration avec Luxinnovation. Lors de ces deux étapes, les chambres professionnelles s’appuient sur l’offre de services "Fit 4 Digital" développée par Luxinnovation pour aider les PME à tirer avantage des technologies numériques.

LARGE LUXINNOVATION CONTINGENT AT LUXEMBOURG INTERNET DAYS 2017

This year with more than 1,100 attendees, 500+ joining companies, 5 panel discussions, 50 exhibitors with a booth in the Expo area and upwards of 320 business meetings Luxembourg Internet Days had its most successful run to date. The 2017 edition was dedicated to digitalisation with a special focus on SMEs & DDoS attacks and the Luxinnovation team was well represented from start to finish at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.

Le ministre de l’Économie, Étienne Schneider, entouré des représentants du patronat, membres du «Trade and Investment Board», dévoilait ce mardi les cinq principaux objectifs de la promotion de l’économie luxembourgeoise à l’étranger, résultant de la fusion de «Luxinnovation» et «Luxembourg for Business».

Faciliter aux entreprises luxembourgeoises l’accès aux marchés internationaux, y compris dans l’espace Benelux;
Attirer des investissements directs étrangers de manière ciblée et orientée vers le secteur des services; Renforcer le réseau international de promotion économique; Construire une image de marque forte du Luxembourg en tant que «smart location» pour des compagnies et industries de haute performance;
Assurer la cohérence et la pertinence des actions de promotion économique.
