[VIDEO] Michio Kaku: Tweaking Moore's Law and the Computers of the POST-Silicon Era

What's beyond silicon? There have been a number of proposals: protein computers, DNA computers, optical computers, quantum computers, molecular computers. Dr. Michio Kaku says "if I were to put money on the table I would say that in the next ten years as Moore's Law slows down, we will tweak it.

Machine Beauty and Our Bionic Future

Machine Beauty and Our Bionic Future | Machines Pensantes | Scoop.it

Welcome to the brave new world of Machine Beauty, where our new willingness to replace our limbs with superior prosthetic devices hints at our technological future as a species. Maybe futurist Ray Kurzweil was right after all when he predicted the merging of man and machine within our lifetime as part of the great Singularity.

The Power of Networks: Fractals of Complexity (w / video)

The Power of Networks: Fractals of Complexity (w / video) | Machines Pensantes | Scoop.it

All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree.” - Albert Einstein

The most tangible comparison is of the neural network of the brain and the intergalactic network of the cosmos. The human brain weighs about 3 pounds and fits between our ears, whereas the universe is, well, a lot bigger.

Yet despite this contrast in size, when both of these natural structures are mapped out as a series of connections, they look nearly identical (see picture above). You can take this even one step further: while the universe is infinitely larger than the brain, and the brain is infinitely larger than a cell, cells seem to produce the same pattern of complexity!

Google patent sends ring signals to Project Glass

Google patent sends ring signals to Project Glass | Machines Pensantes | Scoop.it

Google's September 2011 patent that was filed for a wearable display device was granted this week, which suggests that its envisioned heads-up display device can be controlled by infrared markers in the form of devices worn on the hands, such as fake fingernails or rings. The patent says, “A wearable marker may take the form of a ring, a bracelet, an artificial fingernail configured to be affixed to a fingernail, a decal configured to be affixed to a fingernail, or a glove, among other possible wearable items."

Biochemists have long imagined that #autocatalytic sets can explain the ORIGIN of LIFE. | Machines Pensantes | Scoop.it

Biochemists have long imagined that autocatalytic sets can explain the origin of life. Could it be that the same idea--the general theory of autocatalytic sets--can help explain the origin of life, the nature of emergence and provide a mathematical foundation for organisation in economics?
