Quite why I bother with snapshots, I don't know, however, the GDP figures for May suggest that the UK economy shrank, with the "extra bank holiday" excuse being wheeled out again by the ONS. But to what extent is it true? Yes, many people don't work on that day but how many of them are still getting paid? And what about the extra spending on food and hospitality?
I'm sure it's all true - but I'd like to see a detailed breakdown of the size of the net reduction in economic activity.
