One of the more unusual supply-side impediments that I've come across, but it's perfectly intuitive. The more efficient a country's tax system, the higher its productive capacity, you would think - with individuals and firms having greater certainty and this promoting higher levels of expenditure too.
However, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) is of the view that current HMRC arrangements are sub-optimal: "securing basic tax details takes months and is causing delays for companies."
