This Observer piece looks at how the desire to encourage home ownership in the 1980s and the sell off of social housing has contributed to the problems facing today's housing market, and contrasts this with successful attempts to build social housing elsewhere.

It highlights lots of things - the current housing shortage, the difficulties people are having in getting onto the property ladder and the extent to which intergenerational inequality has largely been driven  by the property market.
