Quizás algunos recuerden “Summerhill”, un delicioso libro que desgranaba, entre reflexiones y ejemplos, los principios en los que se basaba la escuela del mismo nombre. Summerhill fue, además del paradigma de la escuela libertaria, todo un escándalo en su época y más en el escenario en el que se batía, una Inglaterra absolutamente alineada con una tradición y unos principios educativos diametralmente opuestos y de corte absolutamente disciplinario.

Una reflexión sobre cómo el control, lejos de incentivar la responsabilidad y el compromiso los desincentiva, frente a la supervisión, que permite que sean las propias personas responsables de una función o actividad ejerzan el control de la misma.

Money is unfortunately a necessity that we all need in order to survive, and its significance causes us to make decisions and create goals that are derived from the idea of attaining wealth. It is often our primary motivator in life.

 

However, if we look back at the most successful people in the world, their motivation and drive had less to do with money than one may think. And this surprisingly enough is often what enabled them to succeed.

I hate fear. Fear has cost me a hefty sum in dental bills from grinding my teeth. Fear interferes with sleep, digestion, and many other things that make life worth living. When you examine some of the worst things human beings have done, you'll often find fear as the root cause. There's no doubt about it: Fear sucks.

 

Here's what's worked best for me over the years. (And if you've found something else that works, I'd love to hear it!)

1. Ask yourself: Should I take action to solve this fear?

In all of these different contexts, one characteristic emerged as a predictor for success. It wasn't social intelligence, good looks, IQ, or physical health. It was "grit," which the dictionary also defines as "mentally toughness."

 

Duckworth describes this quality in successful people as "perseverance and passion to achieve long-term goals; having stamina; sticking with your future day in and day out and working hard to make that future a reality; a marathon not a sprint.”
