Have you ever thought you hired the workplace version of John Wayne, only to find out youʼve been duped and ended up with a Woody Allen? Poor hiring decisions are costly mistakes that can range as high as 300% of an employeeʼs base salary. Financial losses include expenses associated with hiring and training,

#HR #Leadeship Machines Make Smarter Hiring Decisions Than Managers

#HR #Leadeship Machines Make Smarter Hiring Decisions Than Managers | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Some companies have begun relying more on computer-administered tests than human interviewers to find the best applicants. New research by Harvard Business School Assistant Professor Danielle Li and colleagues suggests that in this case, we may have to score one for the machine.

Job testing was popular in the 1950s and ’60s as a way of sifting through bulging applicant pools. After researchers questioned its reliability, testing fell out of use in favor of personal interviews. Now, with the emergence of big data, machine testing has come back in sophisticated new forms.

Testing companies use a rash of custom-designed assessments, including personality tests, skills assessments, math and logic problems, and judgment tests, on hypothetical work situations. Results are measured using proprietary algorithms and machine learning to predict which candidates will do best in a particular position.

#RRHH #HR 3 Surprising Benefits of Training a New Employee

#RRHH #HR 3 Surprising Benefits of Training a New Employee | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

You did it--you convinced upper management to approve a new hire for your team, you interviewed countless candidates, and you offered the job to the perfect person with that "special sauce." While none of that was probably very easy--unfortunately, the hiring process pales in comparison to task of onboarding your new employee.

Training a new employee can be extremely tricky and filled with self-doubt. I am currently training a new hire for my team, and my thoughts often jump between "How in the world am I going to explain this?" to "Should I just do this myself?" These questions coupled with a new lack of privacy ("Can I be copied on that email?") and scrutiny from your own managers ("How is she coming along?") can be overwhelming.

#HR Social Network Effects in Hiring

#HR Social Network Effects in Hiring | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Everyone has a social network. You can think of it as the people that you know, your interactions with those individuals in terms of frequency and duration, and the way those people are connected to one another. Sometimes we conflate social networks and social media. Social media allows us to keep up with the people in our networks in more efficient ways.

One of the main ways companies are using social networks in their recruiting efforts is the same way they have for decades. They encourage their employees to refer people who they know and think are qualified for positions.

#HR #RRHH The 5 Types Of Coworkers Who Can Make Your Work Life Infinitely Better

#HR #RRHH The 5 Types Of Coworkers Who Can Make Your Work Life Infinitely Better | #HR #RRHH Making love and making personal #branding #leadership | Scoop.it

Much attention is paid to the office bullies, jerks, and energy vampires of the world. These are the folks who drain productivity and make that third cup of coffee necessary to face going to the office. Sometimes, it seems like they’re everywhere.

But that doesn’t seem to be the reality. While it’s probably not surprising that the 2015 report Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement by the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) found that 44% of relationships with coworkers were "very important," what may be surprising it that the report also found that 79% of employees were satisfied with those relationships.

So, maybe our coworkers aren't as bad as we make them out to be. There are several types of people that can be particularly beneficial. Hiring managers, take note: These are the five types of coworkers everyone needs in the office.
