The current cohort of high school students, part of Generation Z, values postsecondary education but is increasingly interested in alternatives to four-year colleges, according to a new report from ECMC Group, a nonprofit focused on student success, and Vice Media. In 2023, 65% of surveyed students said they would need education beyond high school, compared to 59% pre-pandemic, the report said. But 59% said they could be successful if they don’t get a four-year degree Almost half, 48%, of high schoolers said their postsecondary education would ideally take three years or less, and just over a third, 35%, said it should take two years or less.

Learning is an important aspect of human life. Learning isn’t only achieved through formal education with a diploma and a ceremony. Learning can be seen in everything we do, in how we adapt to the world around us, and in how we carry ourselves.

Every action that involves change is an example of learning, a small change in habits such as taking notes for class or even something as small as walking carefully. These are indicators of learning and show how learning is in our nature.

If learning is commonly associated with change then it would be expected that change can also lead to further learning. This can be seen in what most people today consider as “learning situations”. An example would be exposure to a whole new field of mathematics and being stunned with confusion. It is a new change because there are new numbers, new equations, and thus new learning.

The Digital Transformation of Higher Education: So much more than a transition | mobile learning, aprendizaje móvil | Scoop.it

The quality of the digital transformation of HEI depends fundamentally on how successfully they adopt online pedagogies. To that end, establishing a reference model for teaching and learning practices will be paramount. Such a framework is quite helpful for both teachers and students, allowing them to adjust their respective practices in this new environment. Another critical point, which became quite evident during the current crisis, is the need to assure quality learner support, especially in such a challenging social context as the one we are all experiencing. The digital transition should lead to a more participatory learning culture, now that changes in how knowledge and information are produced, transmitted, or distributed in networks often escape the control of organizations and institutions and, consequently, to solutions that match these new realities in the form of participatory pedagogies. Learning and assessment should be based on trust and collaboration, acknowledging the growing importance of the ethical aspects involved.

This paper summarizes a review of literature and a state-of-the-art assessment of instructional design principles, iterative process methodologies, and pedagogical models for mobile learning. The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative conducted previous research on the effectiveness of mobile course delivery. The implications from that research effort have led ADL to further explore which types of mobile learning require specific pedagogical models and accompanying instructional systems design (ISD) principles. The high level steps of the ISD analysis process may be applicable for specific types of mobile learning such as mobile courses and some types of performance support. Intensive research is needed to consider the ways in which mobile applications and pedagogical approaches can help improve military readiness. Based on the findings from this research study, this paper will provide background learning theory that will ultimately lead to new considerations for supporting mobile learning. Finally, this paper will propose a new framework for supporting mobile learning content within any instructional design (ID) model, but will use the traditional ADDIE model as a starting point.

ABSTRACT
The growing popularity of e-books, e-book readers and tablet devices is forcing a reappraisal of the various functions of the book’ in education. Furthermore, e-books are becoming a more salient element in the ecology of mobile learning, as new devices make reading a more comfortable and sociable experience. We report on the results of an 18-month project (2010-12) undertaken as part of The Open University’s Building Mobile Learning Capacity initiative. The project introduced a group of Associate Lecturers to interactive e-books produced by the university and to the iPads® on which they could be accessed. The proliferation of increasingly interactive e-books and e-book collections calls for an examination of their evolving pedagogical purposes; an important aim of the project was therefore to enable this group to form ideas of how these resources could be incorporated in distance education and professional development of academic staff/faculty. The project used surveys, focus group meetings, online forum postings, blog posts and wikis to enable participants to record their experiences and ideas. One project output has been the identification of a spiral of six key use case areas for e-books. In particular, the categories ‘situational reading’, ‘collaborative/group learning’ and ‘e-book production’ inspired a collaboratively designed group activity for a face-to-face outdoor tutorial, which was trialled and is described in this paper. The experience has relevance for the design of blended learning as well as for mobile learning activities in many other settings.
