Setting Up A Moodle Lesson Activity - Super Moodle

Setting Up A Moodle Lesson Activity - Super Moodle | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
The Moodle lesson activity will entail a number of web pages that have been designed for the students to help present a number of activities related to a certain course. The lesson activity might be applied as a substitute of the Book recourse, which is a sequence of content pages. The lessons in Moodle might be categorized and graded using questions that are meant for scoring. The questions might be used basically as a resource of pages that are not graded, or it could be a blend of the two.

Moodle Plugins Directory: Rich Media

Moodle Plugins Directory: Rich Media | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

A rich media is defined here as a video content synchronized with your courseware (slides, pictures, tables, etc.). With this module, two versions of a rich media player are given: a full-featured flash version and a simplified html5 version. Another tool is also provided to ease the synchronization of your courseware with the main video.

To create a Rich Media activity, you have to :

- Upload your video (mp4, flv or ogv format)

- Upload an archive of your "slides" repository

- Upload or create your synchronization file (xml)

Moodle Plugins Directory: Auto Attendance

Moodle Plugins Directory: Auto Attendance | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

These Auto Attendance block and module are modification of the Attendance block/module of Mr. Dmitry Pupinin (v1.0.8, 2007).

In addition to the manual attendance mode to take attendance manually the original, automatic attendance mode (from the access log of Moodle) and semi-automatic attendance mode (user clicks a link) are also possible.

It is strongly recommended a combination of Auto Attendance block (autoattend) and Auto Attendance module (autoattendmod).

Moodle plugins: Online audio recording

Moodle plugins: Online audio recording | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

Audio recorder (Flash 10.1+) submission method. Records locally and uploads via HTTP POST, so there's no need for a streaming server!

Finally putting an end to the need for a streaming server (or a Java applet) to allow students to record audio clips for Moodle assignments, the Online Audio Recording assignment uses Flash (10.1+) to record audio from a microphone, convert it to MP3 format and upload it to Moodle via HTTP POST.

The Moodle Lesson Activity truly is an amazing content creator

The Moodle Lesson Activity truly is an amazing content creator | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

Not many Moodlers use the Lesson Activity in Moodle.  Mostly because it’s neither a brilliant quiz engine nor a replacement for the book module.  But when you combine both these elements and spend a bit of time on the design you can create engaging, interactive learning packages that can stand their own against popular content creation tools, and best of all, it’s authored natively in Moodle.

Let’s look at the benefits/features of using the lesson module:

* Include a file popup – such as a supporting word doc or PDF, similar to what Storyline lets you do with resources
* Display a progress bar (which by the way can be styled to high heaven with CSS to look funky with gradients)
* Display an on-going score to learners so they can see their grade
* Can be set to work like a slideshow/stage with fixed height so it feels more like a Powerpoint or SCORM package
* Can be a timed activity
* Can be password protected
* Availability can be based upon completing a previous lesson – very powerful feature
* Availability can also be based upon the time spent on a previous lesson – perfect for Online Guided Learning Hours (UK requirement)
* Allows for multiple attempts and limited retries (fully configurable)
* In-built quiz with multiple question types
* Ability to import questions from other platforms
* Branching and clustering – allows for random quiz slides
* Workflows and pathways – learners can see different slides depending on the answers to a question – can be made interactive and personal.
* Can be linked to outcomes for improved reporting
* Has its own reporting tools
* Links with the Moodle gradebook

Moodle plugins directory: Media collection

Moodle plugins directory: Media collection | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

Media collection is an activity that enables users to create galleries (of image/audio/video). The galleries themselves have many display options the user can choose such as displaying in a grid or carousel, and defining the number of items to show per row/column and such.

Each item can have metadata supplied (title, publisher, medium, production date, etc).

When viewing a gallery, selecting an item brings up a lightbox interface that allows the user to view a larger version of the item along with the metadata. Social options are also visible in the lightbox interface (liking & commenting).

Tiny Tap App in the Foreign Language Classroom | Langwitches Blog

Tiny Tap App in the Foreign Language Classroom | Langwitches Blog | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano (Langwitches blog) tries out TinyTap, "a new app that caught my eye for its potential to make students creators and designers of games on the iPad."

Shona Whyte:

Read her account of using the app with older learners to make language learning games for younger schoolmates.  Interesting for the method and learner comments as well as for the app itself.
