On Monday, September 15, the Gershwin Theatre was not packed with Wicked audience members, but with supporters of the LGBTI community. OK, maybe they're the same people. Performers and presenters at the benefit for global equality included country-music star Chely Wright, Wicked and Pippin composer Stephen Schwartz, Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Stephanie J. Block (Wicked), and the casts of Once and American Repertory Theater's Witness Uganda. The one-night benefit concert served to support worldwide equality. The net proceeds of the event will go directly to Fueling the Frontlines, a three-year, $20 million campaign for global LGBTI rights led by the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. The evening also premiered clips from the new documentary To Russia With Love, which explores human rights through the lens of LGBTI sports figures, with iconic athlete and commentator Johnny Weir serving as the viewers' guide into this world. To Russia With Lovepremieres at 8pm on Wednesday, October 29, on EPIX. See all the fun in the gallery below.
