The Future of Learning: Preparing for Change

The Future of Learning: Preparing for Change | Networked learning | Scoop.it

Interesting report by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (European Joint Research Centre) with contributions from CELSTEC staff.

"The overall vision is that personalisation, collaboration and informalisation (informal learning) are at the core of learning in the future. These terms are not new in education and training but will have to become the central guiding principle for organising learning and teaching in the future."

My interpretation of this: Networked Learning is the way forward, if it is personal and informal.

Paulo Moekotte's comment, November 22, 2011 6:28 AM
But don't forget to mention and take into account the expert ratings on importance and feasability with regard to the different aspects of the necessary, inevatible (or self-proclaimed?) change. For example the aspects like 'Learner in control' of 'Formal edcution goes informal'. How are these aspects to become 'central guiding principles', when you look at the feasability ratings?

Teach Web: Personal Learning Environments: Student Processes and Decisions

Teach Web: Personal Learning Environments: Student Processes and Decisions | Networked learning | Scoop.it

"We in educational technology are often accused of focusing too much attention on technology and tools rather than cognitive processes."

Wonderful post - must read. Diagram worth close examination by educators and information specialists - and then do as Wendy suggests:

"To ponder:
What do you think about the relationship between direct instruction and personal learning?Do you see areas on the diagram that require teacher intervention? How many of our secondary and post secondary students are equipped to construct effective personal learning environments? What would you add to this diagram?"

Learning with 'e's: Tools of the trade | Networked learning | Scoop.it

Interesting analysis of professional learning networks by Joyce Seitzinger's, as reported by Steve Wheeler's blog. Strange thing I noted when studying the diagrams was that they are not really quadrants, because the diagram does not consistently build around apposite values on the two axes.

The Role of Educator in a Networked World ~ Stephen's Web

The Role of Educator in a Networked World ~ Stephen's Web | Networked learning | Scoop.it
In this presentation I revisit the 'role of the educator' discussion I offered last year for the same course, offering a point of view stressing a new approach to learning, and drawing out the consequences of that in a series of new roles for educators, leading to the conclusion that the role of the educator itself will be unbundled in the world of online learning.

@Ignatia Webs: Beware critics of Connectivism ! Or how I feel connectivism opens up content creation and access | Networked learning | Scoop.it

What was surprising was that many of the people who critiqued it, actually were experienced researchers, yet they did not actually follow the course itself. On top of the fact that they did not follow it, or only took a very brief glance at the concept, they critiqued the fact that George and Stephen came away with the idea of connectivism, because people were blindly following their concept, as though the people that took the CCK-course were not able to think for themselves.

A difficult term, building on the metaphor of a rhizome, a stem of a plant that sends out roots and shoots. Stresses the fundamentally problematic nature of teaching.
