Scottsdale has rejected a city LGBT non-discrimination ordinance in the past, but city politicians recently voted to send a letter to ask Arizona lawmakers to handle it at the state level. Arizona is one of more than 25 states that offer no protections for sexual orientation and gender identity that would clearly prohibit situations such as refusing to serve customers because they are gay or transgender or firing a worker because of their sexual orientation. Scottsdale leaders say the issue warrants a consistent statewide approach, rather than a patchwork of local ordinances. “It is incredibly helpful to have the support of city leaders urging the state Legislature to really push this issue forward.
