Cognitive Mapping

Cognitive Mapping | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I am inordinately fond of a crappy TV show called Leverage. Its about a little band of hackers, grifters and second-story artists who steal from the rich to give to the poor. Perhaps I like it because it reminds me of my favorite childhood TV show, The Adventures of Robin Hood. Made in the 1950s, it was regularly on Australian TV in the 1960s. Much later, I found out it was written and produced by blacklisted Hollywood Reds working in artistic exile in London.

George Lakoff on Communication: "Liberals Do Everything Wrong"

George Lakoff on Communication: "Liberals Do Everything Wrong" | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

George Lakoff, professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Berkeley, has been working on moral frames for 50 years. In Communicating Our American Values and Vision, he gives this precis: "Framing is not primarily about politics or political messaging or communication. It is far more fundamental than that: frames are the mental structures that allow human beings to understand reality – and sometimes to create what we take to be reality. But frames do have an enormous bearing on politics … they structure our ideas and concepts, they shape the way we reason … For the most part, our use of frames is unconscious and automatic."

And now, the rebuttal from the Left.

May it be the final rebuttal to the Right's senseless, callous, cruel, bigoted, small-minded and small-hearted sense of "self" and the world.

Satan's people, in other words, regardless of their displayed piety and false morality.

I doubt it will be though, unfortunately.

It'll take more trial and error to undo the dogmatic, conservative influence on the minds of others, all the while, the left will be making mistakes along the way.

A sad state of affairs for humanity.  But, that's how our brains work, in the flesh.

Deaf, blind and stupid.

Think about it.
