Open Source Architecture License - P2P Foundation

Open Source Architecture License - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A lot was written about open-source architecture by Kaspori (2003), Fuller & Haque (2008), Sallingaros (2011), Ratti (2011) and Ratti and Claudel (2015), but very was actually done, because the framework doesn't exists and the open-source architecture ideas have been related to "Architecture without architects", DIY architecture and Alexander's (1977) ideas. But open source isn't about the amateurs - it's about the professionals, delivering faster, inexpensive and better products."

"So if the social consensus is that all verified humans get some percentage of all businesses who use that license then the license now has the teeth of the traditional legal system similar to the GPL."

From the Communism of Capital to a Capital for the Commons

From the Communism of Capital to a Capital for the Commons | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

On the one hand we have a re-emergence of the cooperative movement and worked-owned enterprises, but they suffer from structural weaknesses. Cooperative entities work for their own members, are reluctant to accept new cooperators that would share existing profits and benefits, and are practicioners of the same proprietary knowledge and artificial scarcities as their capitalist counterparts. Even though they are internally democratic, they often participate in the same dynamics of capitalist competition which undermines their own cooperative values.

Peer Production License - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The peer production license is an example of the Copyfarleft type of license, in which only other commoners, cooperatives and nonprofits can share and re-use the material, but not commercial entities intent on making profit through the commons without explicit reciprocity

Some of the Web’s Most Important Infrastructure Is Barely Funded. How Can We Preserve It? | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

ou’d be forgiven for thinking that the tech world is a loathsome hotbed of rapacious venture capitalists, airheaded trend-riders, and publicity hounds. That’s the image presented by much of the tech press, which prizes stories about the Montgomery Burnses of the tech world over ones about its more idealistic denizens.

Why Employee Owned Source Code is a Problematic Solution - P2P Foundation

Why Employee Owned Source Code is a Problematic Solution - P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Open sourcing software leads therefore to competitive outcomes, and thus income, to vast reductions in infrastructural investments, which can be used in other productive ways by participating entrepreneurial entities. Finally, while the open source software is often free (as is a lot of proprietary software), it also generates substantial incomes for developers, which are actually a ‘aristocracy of labor’. Fair use pools not only generate 1/6th of U.S. GDP (according to a 2011 study) and employ 17 million workers, but developers are generally well paid for their work on software. Labor for open source is only ‘free’ if the motivation of the workers is to develop such software either for their own use, or to contribute to common projects they believe in.
