Tokina exhibits 70-200mm F4 FX and 12-28mm F4 DX lenses at CP+

Tokina exhibits 70-200mm F4 FX and 12-28mm F4 DX lenses at CP+ | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Tokina has announced it will be exhibiting two soon-to-be-released lenses at the CP+ trade show in Japan. The AT-X 70-200 F4 PRO FX VCM-S is a telephoto zoom that's designed for use on both full frame and APS-C SLRs, and features both optical image stabilisation and a ring-type ultrasonic autofocus motor with full-time manual override. Meanwhile the AT-X 12-28 F4 PRO DX is a replacement for the company's existing 12-24mm F4 wideangle zoom for APS-C cameras. But rather than making the lens wider to match its competitors, Tokina has chosen to extend it further into the 'normal' range, to give an 18-42mm equivalent zoom.

The 70-200mm F4 was first shown as a mock-up at CP+ last year (click here for link). It appears that the version on display this year is fully-working, and will be released to the market soon. There's no information yet on pricing and availability, or even which mounts the lenses will be made for (historically Tokina has produced lenses in Canon and Nikon versions, and most recently the 11-16mm F2.8 in Sony fit too).

Schneider Kreuznach plans lens range for mirrorless and shows 14mm F2.0: Digital Photography Review

Schneider Kreuznach plans lens range for mirrorless and shows 14mm F2.0: Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Schneider Kreuznach has said it will begin making lenses for mirrorless systems, and has shown renderings of a 14mm F2.0 lens for the Micro Four Thirds system. The move will make Schneider one of the few independent lens makers building autofocus lenses for mirrorless systems, following the launches of lenses for Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX from Sigma and a NEX 18-200mm from Tamron. As part of its annual review, Schneider says it will introduce a range of lenses for mirrorless cameras 'this fall,' which we're expecting to mean around the Photokina show in Cologne, this September."

Canon creates EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm F2.8 STM pancake | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Canon has developed the EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF 40mm F2.8 STM lenses with stepper motors for fast, quiet operation when shooting video. The 18-135mm STM is an extended standard zoom for APS-C DSLRs, while the 40mm STM is a pancake prime lens for full frame and APS-C cameras. Both lenses feature stepper motors, to enable fast, quiet focus, particularly with the contrast-detection method of autofocus used for live view and video. They also both have electromagnetic diaphragms - allowing smooth and accurate control over aperture for video shooting. The lenses will be available from late June 2012, with the 18-135mm STM costing $549 and the 40mm F2.8 STM costing $199."

Nikon announces AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR affordable full-frame lens

Nikon announces AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR affordable full-frame lens | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Nikon has announced the AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR, a comparatively affordable, stabilized, variable aperture standard zoom lens for full frame cameras. It comes as Nikon celebrates the sale of the 70 millionth Nikkor lens since 1933, and the 30 millionth silent-wave motor lens since the system's introduction in 1996. It's hard not to interpret the announcement as lending weight to the rumors of an affordable full-frame body, since it's hard to imagine large numbers of D800 owners using a lens with a recommended price of $599 as their everyday lens."

Anamorphic DIY Adapter Used For Capturing Widescreen On 35 Mm DSLRs

Anamorphic DIY Adapter Used For Capturing Widescreen On 35 Mm DSLRs | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"The thing is that our DSLRs take images with 2:3 ratio and if we crop them we lose quality. This is where anamorphic lenses come into play, anamorphic lenses stretch the image to capture widescreen images/footage on 2:3 sensors. Just like an anamorphic pinhole captures wide screen images on a 35mm film.

Here is the problem, anamorphic lenses are kinda rare and expensive. Used anamorphic projection lenses on the other hand are bearable..."

Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 SP Di USD VC (Canon EOS) - Review / Lens Test

Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 SP Di USD VC (Canon EOS) - Review / Lens Test | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Fast standard zoom lenses are certainly a hot spot in the product portfolios. So far this arena has been dominated by the original manufacturers although the third-party manufacturers tried to challenge the big boys every once in a while. Tamron did so as well with the SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR but the lens had/has no differentiator other than its low pricing. As such it was popular among amateurs on a budget but it has been largely ignored by professionals. However, their latest offering is a different beast altogether - the Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 SP Di USD VC. Other than matching the specs of competing products it has something unique - it is the first fast standard zoom lens featuring an image stabilizer (VC = Vibration Control). An ultrasonic AF (USD) as well as weather sealing are also part of the package. Obviously Tamron is pretty much convinced of the capabilities of their new baby because they do no longer want to compete by price - they are asking about 1100EUR/1300US$. Now this may still be "just" half the price of the new Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L II but it is a magnitude more expensive than the old Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR and it's certainly no budget item anymore."

"It was my great pleasure to make test images with the newly announced 28mm F1.8G lens. I’m all about the fast glass and the 28mm does not disappoint; it’s sharp and fast and significantly smaller, lighter and cheaper than the beautiful 24mm f1.4G lens, the widest of the very fast Nikon glass.

In the coming days I will upload more sample images taken with the lens, mostly at f1.8 or near to wide open with my D3s.

Sadly, I had to send it back but like many of you, I’ve got an order in for one...."
