Here are the pros & cons of each, as well as factors B2B marketers should consider for their video content marketing strategies!...
Your audience should be as wide as possible, but B2B companies should have targets in mind – namely, other businesses. What kind of site will attract your target organizations? YouTube unquestionably provides an opportunity for broader viewership with top brands averaging 884,000 monthly views. Although Vimeo draws fewer sets of eyes, you have less competition, so it may be the more appropriate outlet, depending on your industry.
In terms of quality and production value, Vimeo may have the leg up. Its more refined vibe and approach to video hosting can be more appealing to professionals, a definite positive for B2B outreach. YouTube’s limit on video length is problematic for longer demos, but in the B2B marketing world, the average effective video lasts just 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Fully customizing your account may be more valuable than high resolution and unlimited duration....
The 2013 Online Video Marketing Survey and Business Video Trends Report has been released by ReelSEO, the Web Marketing Council, and Flimp Media, and of the 600 marketers surveyed as part of the study, 93% of those marketers are using brand video content (up from 81% in 2012) with 82% reporting that video content has a positive effect on their businesses.
The most popular use of video content for marketers in 2013 is for website marketing (84%) followed by search marketing (80%) and email marketing (60%). Only 10% of survey respondents claimed that video had little effect on marketing return on investment, yet just 71% of marketers plan to increase their online video marketing budgets while 1% plan to cut their video marketing budgets this year...
Brands can inform, market, help and educate with their online videos and STUDIES show that people who watch videos of brands online are 60% more likely to make a purchase decision. But the possibilities of online video don’t stop there. Think online, think visual, think video and think what if you could do more than just watch the video. That’s it, right there you have interactive video.
Interactive video has been on the RISE lately: digital ads that feature some kind of interactivity leapt from only 2% in January 2013 to 11% in June. Naturally it doesn’t stop there and the numbers are expected to double next year. Forrester defines interactive video as “A type of digital video supporting user interaction through gestures, voice, touch and clicks”.
Let’s pause here because this has huge implications. Consumers can watch branded content and engage with contextually relevant interactive elements. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words but what are those thousand words against 1.8m impressions that one minute of online video generates?...
As we near the end of my blog post series about how blogging and social media work together, in this two-part post I’ll be exploring YouTube.
For an expert view, I interviewed Anthony Idle from Local Video Marketing. Anthony shows local business owners how to use video in their online marketing even if they hate to be on camera and have zero budget.
How many videos has your prospect watched today alone?
Chances are the answer is “several”.
So a better question may be, “how many of those videos were from your brand?”.
Video marketing is a significant opportunity for brand differentiation amongst business-to-business marketers today.Stop to consider the facts on video production and consumption:
- More than 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute - Online video consumption increased by 38% between May 2011 and May 2012 - 75% of business executives regularly watch work related video...
...Today, most brands successfully employ social media marketing to expand their businesses. Including video marketing into the mix can further drive engagement, social sharing and ROI. Ultimately, these strategies allow marketers to deliver relevant, share-able content that consumers are searching for. Will your business employ these tactics to gain a competitive edge?
When it comes to marketing your brand or business online, can you tell your story in 15 seconds? How about six?
That's all the time you have when you use one of the new short-video sharing apps available for iOS and Android devices. Vine was the first of these video apps, enabling you to shoot and upload videos no more than six seconds long and loop over and over. Not to be left behind, Instagram recently added video sharing to its digital photo app, and upped the time limit to a whopping 15 seconds per video. Instagram videos don't loop.
Then there's MixBit, which lets you shoot short videos but also enables editing of multiple clips into longer one- and two-minute videos. The service just launched last week...
Brands looking to diversify their marketing efforts should include video content now that 85 percent of web users view streaming media.
Vizify hit the ground running as a new social media platform that excels in social sharing. A smart, multi-channel approach is incorporated in their own marketing....
Before this post, I had never heard of #Vizify. A tweet from a good friend mentioning me in her video caught my attention. Since there was a link, I was intrigued. The video is brief–less than a minute–and it’s informative and entertaining at the same time. The fact I have a role doesn’t hurt either. After viewing her video, I am invited to create my own, or I should say, I am invited to let them create one for me. The user interface is clean, simple and entertaining, all at the same time. And the real power, you can edit if you don’t like the finished product they create....
On this week’s Magnet Minute episode, our host talks about the importance of using video content for your branding and marketing....
This week on the Magnet Minute, Amy discusses a Gigaom article about a study on the status of video content. According to the study, video will be more prevalent than social media in the coming years, indicating that by 2017, video streaming users will outnumber those active on social networks. That information should be more than enough reason for you to get your business moving on developing new ideas to reach your audience through video content. You’ve likely been urged to do this before, but this is a content medium that’s going to be far too serious (especially in regards to the marketing world) for you to bypass....
How long should your video be? People all over the internet have been asking this for ages! For a long time, the idea was that shorter was better, but recent evidence suggests that long-form videos are now proving more popular, and even YouTube and Vimeo are prioritizing this video content in their search rankings.
However, Tout and Vine are looking to move the trend back to short video. And when I say short, I mean short. Tout offers 15-second video posts, while Vine (from Twitter) offers 6 seconds. The concept of the platforms is to allow only “clips” or video snapshots, rather than long-winded or over-produced content. It’s an interesting direction for video, but it could be the perfect synergy of video and the short attention spans of social networking....
Much has been written in these columns about the use of online video and how it is becoming essential for any serious brand online. It's used in promotion, video ads, "how to" and explainer videos, user-generated videos, contests, live event streaming and much more. But if you know little or nothing about video production, where do you start and how difficult is it likely to be?
Let's take a quick look at seven sites that can really help – and even have you making animated videos in hours. - ReelSEO

- VideoScribe from Sparkol

Sadly, most of us don’t have marketing budgets matching those of International brands such as Samsung, Evian, Dove or Heineken (which feature in this this weeks viral UK chart). With deeper pockets than most, these megabrands’ ‘viral videos’ clearly enjoy the lions share of online audiences. However, when an online video ‘goes viral’ this is more likely a result of significant advertising spend, rather than just plain luck, as is often perceived. The videos which do go viral as a result of pure luck, (as evident in Top Ten viral video of 2012 list), tend to either feature stupid people, drunk people, bad singers, or combination of all. The ones that aren’t a case of being in the right / wrong place at the right time, are known as ‘social videos’ (due to their share-ability). This recent phenomenon in video marketing is swiftly becoming one of the key advertising channels for brands wanting to tap into the huge audiences hanging out on social media sites. We’re not just talking about Youtube (which tends to be the host). Most of the major social media sites now allow your promotional video to be shared, and it’s these ‘shares’ which are the measure of a successful campaign. The stats are staggering; a ‘trending’ video (such as Call of Duty: Ghosts) can enjoy upwards of 150,000 shares in 24 hours, 5 million views and over 7000 comments in a week! Not bad publicity for a computer game. Sure, it helps if you have a chart topping product and a loyal army of followers. More importantly though, you’ll require a huge amount of money poured into ‘pay per click’ video advertising on the likes of Youtube....

So you've got a ton of views on YouTube, but are your prospects taking action? Find out why YouTube is only one component of a worthwhile video marketing strategy.
You’ve managed to get 60,000 YouTube views on that video you posted last week…
So many views!I know, pretty exciting hey? Now, if you’re like most marketers, you think, “YES! My video marketing is kick ass!” and then you start practicing Markie award thank-you speeches in your bathroom mirror.
But I want to ask you a question that has probably already crossed your mind. That tiny voice in the back of your head has surely whispered it, or your CMO has hinted, but I’m flat out just going to ask: So what?
Where did these mysterious views come from? Who is watching your videos? And, as every marketer should question, are these viewers part of your target audience contributing to ROI, or are they just randoms who landed on your content after watching 20 videos of a chihuahua doing yoga?...
When it comes to marketing strategy, videos are powerful. How powerful? On Facebook, for example, videos are shared 12 times more than non-video posts. And let’s not forget YouTube, the second largest search engine in the world (after Google, of course). The ability of videos to increase user engagement is unsurpassed.
According to YouTube’s statistics page, they get over 800 million unique visitors each month, users view more than 4 billion hours of video each month and upload 72 hours of video every minute. That’s a lot of potential for your video....
Why don't more businesses use pictures or videos to explain their products when they can make things so much easier to understand?
I recently purchased a great coffee maker, the Nespresso. Sometimes when you get a product like this, you pull it out of the box and consider skipping the instructions all together given how long it might take to read the four point type, right?
But wow, what a pleasant surprise, the Nespresso manual was...you guessed it...made up of pictures! It took no time for us to be sipping some fine espresso out of our new green machine. They've also got a great section right on their website called, "You have just bought a Nespresso machine", with content dedicated to the first use of your machine, troubleshooting, and how to register for the Nespresso club. It's super visual as well....
By 2017, it will take an individual more than five million years to watch the amount of video that's going to be generated each monthmonth.
...I posed that question to Michael Litt, CEO and cofounder of video mark/eting company Vidyard, and asked him to make the case for video to be that tool.“Well, you could probably create some really awesome content about
what life was like on that island,” Litt jokes. “But seriously, tweets, written content, and photos can only go so far; video is the most engaging medium on the Web—it's the next best thing to being there in person.
”Consumers clearly agree, as is evidenced by their actions. According to Cisco, by 2017 online video will be responsible for nearly 70% of all consumer Internet traffic. Within three years, nearly one million minutes of video content will cross content delivery networks every second. By then Cisco estimates it would take an individual more than five million years to watch the amount of video content generated each month. To put that into perspective, the genus of great ape from which modern humans derive still hadn't evolved five million years ago....
Allow me to take a moment to share with you what works on YouTube. I’ve found that these 20 tips will turn your videos into overnight sensations and capture the attention of the masses. Granted, it doesn’t happen overnight and a fair amount of work is required, but the phenomenal results––if you follow all of these ideas––will bring tremendous attention to your brand.
YouTube may be the most popular video outlet on the internet, but it isn’t the only one. There are many more sites that support video and video marketing. While YouTube has some restrictions, many of these other sites don’t have any restrictions. Here is a basic guide to get you started in web based video marketing and to give you the tools to capitalize on this aspect of marketing.
Develop Content Strategically The worst thing you can do with video marketing is to start posting content without a clear, strategic plan. Prior to posting your first video, have several other videos shot and ready to go. Each video should build on the previous one. This will keep things logical and appealing to customers. You should also make sure that your videos are kept under ten minutes. Anything longer and you run the risk of losing a potential client....
As I discussed in part 1 of this series we are now in a post-broadcast world. The rules have changed dramatically in terms of how brands connect with their audience. What hasn’t changed is the power of motion picture storytelling. A new form of communication is evolving that combines this power with social media: social video.
My definition of social video is digital video designed to be shared through social networks. Social video is different than broadcast video in many ways; you can’t simply post your traditional 30 second TV spot online and wait for the views to roll in. I am surprised how many brands are still doing this.
There are six principles of social video directly influenced by social media. To be effective brands need to listen first, be agile in terms of production, engage with their audience, be emotive, build momentum and (if you get it right) spawn a viral effect....
Are your videos roaring or boring? Read these three tips for taking a basic failed video and making it a success.
I'm about to waste a minute of your time. Don't be offended. It happens a lot. In fact, chances are you're already wasting other people's time or you wouldn't have clicked on this column. Every time you post a video that's dull and doesn't communicate a meaningful message, you waste your precious marketing resources as well as the time of the few people who view it....
When it comes content marketing for your business, there are a lot of different ways you can go. Blogging is obviously one of the most popular, but there are also eBooks, eNewsletters, podcasts, and more. One popular type of content creation involves video, and while I have only dabbled in it a bit, I think that many businesses and nonprofits could use video effectively if they tried their hand at it.
The other day I talked about using Vimeo as one option, though of course the biggest option for video uploading and sharing continues to be Youtube. But regardless if you use one or both of these services, or even another option, video can be a great way to tell your story and grab attention. And remember, making a video today does not need to involve lots of money or high priced equipment. Yes, you can do really nice productions, but for some videos, it is perfectly acceptable to use webcams or smartphone cams. Here are five different types of video content you can use online to grab and maintain the interest of your audience...
GoAnimate offers predesigned content and templates, but also lets small-business owners add their own video, images and audio. There is plenty of data pointing to the enormous value of images and video when conveying a specific message. One statistic from ComScore suggests there are more than 180 million unique video viewers poking around the Internet. Another piece of data claims that a person's purchasing appetite increases up to 85 percent after watching a product-related video....
We talk about the importance of video as part of an integrated marketing strategy all the time. Some brands get it, some don’t. And for many, especially small to medium sized businesses, video just seems either incomprehensible insofar as how to integrate into a campaign or too far out of reach from a budget standpoint.
Both barriers, ease of integration into campaigns and costs, are easily surmountable—and well worth the investment. Here’s why. C
ustomer behavior (and consumer demand) makes use of video when it comes to marketing—and selling–imperative. As Daniel Pink says in To Sell is Human, The Surprising Truth About Moving Others, you can’t motivate people in a knowledge economy with weak or false information. To my way of thinking, video is the veritable definition of real, credible information....
No matter what you're selling or hoping to promote, video should be a consideration for your marketing spend and focus. With easy-to-use platforms like YouTube, nobody can blame technology as a hurdle anymore. Still, it's difficult to come up with just the right message, tone, and approach to make video marketing pay off for you. Every business is different, and finding your niche, and your audience, might take some time. But the great thing about starting under the radar, though, is that you can test and tweak and fine-tune at first before making a bigger splash. When that time comes, you'll have all the information and experience behind you to help inform your decisions. Here are five tips to get started....

YouTube vs. Vimeo: Which is better for B2B Marketing?
