Hacker haben Tausende sensible Dateien von den Servern eines französischen Konzerns gestohlen. Das Unternehmen ist auch am Bau von Atomanlagen und Gefängnissen beteiligt

Bei einem Angriff auf ein französisches Bauunternehmen konnten Hacker zahlreiche Dokumente zu kritischer Infrastruktur wie Atomkraftwerken, Gefängnissen und Straßenbahnnetzen erbeuten. Der Konzern Ingérop, der seinen Hauptsitz nahe Paris hat und weltweit an großen Bauprojekten beteiligt ist, bestätigte den Angriff auf Anfrage.

Der dabei kopierte Datensatz, der dem NDR vorliegt und den Reporter gemeinsam mit der "Süddeutschen Zeitung" und "Le Monde" ausgewertet haben, umfasst mehr als 65 Gigabyte. Darunter sind Pläne der Standorte von Videokameras, die in einem französischen Hochsicherheitsgefängnis eingesetzt werden sollten, Unterlagen zu einem geplanten Atommüll-Endlager im Nordosten Frankreichs und persönliche Informationen zu mehr als 1200 Ingérop-Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern. Auch einige firmeninterne E-Mails sind Teil des Datenlecks.

According to the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Yukiya Amano, a nuclear power plant in Germany was hit by a “disruptive” cyber attack two to three years ago.

“This issue of cyber attacks on nuclear-related facilities or activities should be taken very seriously. We never know if we know everything or if it’s the tip of the iceberg.” Amano told Reuters Agency.

“This is not an imaginary risk,” added Amano who also participated in a meeting with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Amano confirmed that cyber attacks on nuclear plants are a serious threat, he did not provide further details of either incident.

Fortunately, the damages caused by the cyber attack on the German nuclear plant did not force the operators to shut down its processes but urged the adoption of additional precautionary measures.

“This actually happened and it caused some problems,” he said. “[the Germant plant] needed to take some precautionary measures.”

Unidentified hackers have been targeting the networks of companies responsible for operating nuclear power plants in the US for the last two months, according to The New York Times.

Citing a joint report issued by both the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI some time last week, The Times’ story identifies one target as the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, a facility responsible for overseeing the operation of a nuclear power plant outside Burlington, Kansas.

The report also states that energy companies and manufacturing plants are also being targeted, yet none are identified by name.
