Hackers recently compromised the website hosting the open-source MySQL database management system and caused it to infect the PCs of visitors who used unpatched browsers and plug-ins, security researchers said.

 

MySQL.com was infected with mwjs159, website malware that often spreads when compromised machines are used to access restricted FTP clients, a blog post from Sucuri Security reported.

 

The hack caused people visiting the site to be redirected to a site that attempted to install malware on visitors' computers using code from the Blackhole exploit kit, separate researchers from Armorize said.

Anonymous mugshots are leaked

Hosting web site knocked offline in attack...

 

SUSPECTED MEMBERS of hacktivist group Anonymous have been identified on a US political web site, which shortly after posting suffered a denial of service attack.


A website called Talking Points Memo (TPM) posted mugshots of sixteen individuals who were arrested by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for their alleged involvement in cyber crimes. These individuals were arrested in July following an investigation into attacks on Paypal and others, it added.

HACKERS WITH A CAUSE, Anonymous has announced Operation Britain, which aims to support peaceful protests with coordinated IT systems attacks.


The group hopes to inspire political protests unlike the riots seen in London and across the UK last week, but has used that experience as its inspiration for Operation Britain. It said that while it does not support "thuggery" it does support protest and understands the causes of the riots.

THE INQUIRER has received exclusive details about what infamous yet little known hacker Louise Boat looks like.
The femme fatale, who apparently leads the hacktivist group Anonymous, reputedly has long, blonde hair and tends to wear pink. She also apparently attempts to disguise her identity by wearing a monocle, top hat and a false moustache, according to sources close to the group.

PEOPLE DATABASE Facebook is trying to improve its security by using a tool that will check every web link that its users click on.


From today a system by web security company Websense will visit pages for users and apply a series of tests for trojans, phishing attempts, botnets and other malware threats.


If the link is malicious, the user will see a page that offers the choice to continue at their own risk, return to the previous screen, or get more information on why it is flagged as suspicious.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE attending London's Infosec conference logged into a rogue wireless hotspot that could have left them open to attack by hackers.


For a couple of hours on days one and two of the conference, insecurity firm Cryptocard created a wireless hotspot called 'Infosecfreewifi'. It found that 143 people connected to the rogue network on Tuesday and 162 people on Wednesday. In the space of just two hours on each day.


Afterwards the firm did a live demonstration on stage, where it set up a new wireless hotspot, calling it 'BT Openzone'. These networks connect to Iphones automatically, so when it was switched on Apple devices throughout the conference joined.
