Mark Zuckerbergs Facebook Inc. möchte bei zukünftigen Produkten unabhängig von Googles Android werden. Daher lässt man für künftige Hardware im Augmented Reality-Bereich (AR) vorsorglich ein eigenes Betriebssystem entwickeln. Das berichtet die US-Seite The Information unter Berufung auf Facebooks Unternehmenssprecher. Das könnte sich auf neuere Modelle der Oculus- oder künftige Augmented-Reality-Brillen beziehen, wo Facebook auch neue Hardware auf Silicon-on-Chip entwickelt.

In der EU-Kommission macht sich immer mehr Widerstand gegen Facebooks Digitalwährung Libra breit. Die Kommission soll derzeit potenziell wettbewerbswidriges Verhalten untersuchen.
Laut einem am Dienstagabend veröffentlichten Bericht der Nachrichtenagentur Bloomberg formiert sich bei den Wettbewerbshütern der Europäischen Union (EU) Widerstand gegen die vom Internet-Riesen Facebook angekündigte Einführung der Digitalwährung "Libra". Die EU-Kommission untersuche derzeit "potenziell wettbewerbswidriges Verhalten", hieß es in dem Artikel. Bloomberg beruft sich auf ein Dokument, das der Agentur vorliege.
Bedenken gegen Facebook Libra

In der EU-Kommission gebe es demnach Bedenken, dass Facebook mit dem Bezahlsystem Libra Wettbewerber ausschließen werde. Der Internetkonzern könnte damit "mögliche Wettbewerbsbehinderungen" schaffen. Wie Bloomberg weiter berichtet, befindet sich die Untersuchung der EU-Kommission noch in einem frühen Stadium. Weder die EU-Kommission noch Facebook wollten einen Kommentar dazu abgeben, berichtete die Agentur.

Mit dem Libra will Facebook eine durch einen Korb harter Währungen gedeckte digitale Währung schaffen. Das fordert etablierte Akteure im Finanzsystem wie zum Beispiel Zentralbanken heraus. "Facebook kann Libra-Dienste in seine digitalen Plattformen integrieren und von starken Netzwerkeffekten profitieren", hieß es in einer Studie der Deutschen Bank. Nach Einschätzung der Bank-Experten dürfte der Libra in Europa auf "einen wettbewerbsintensiven, aber fragmentierten Markt für digitale Zahlungen stoßen".

In den vergangenen Monaten hatten Meldungen über die geplante Einführung von Libra immer wieder Spekulationen auf Digitalwährungen befeuert und auch den Kurs des Bitcoin zeitweise stark nach oben getrieben. Experten raten immer wieder zur Vorsicht bei Investitionen in Digitalwährungen und verweisen auf extrem starke Kursschwankungen.

Twitter has long positioned itself as the “global town square” in which the world comes together to have a shared conversation across geographic and cultural boundaries. Such was the early vision of last decade's social platforms, that they would bring us together as a society and overcome the ability of elites to dictate the global conversation. Instead, even as Twitter’s CEO touted his company’s global reach in 2013, the platform’s growth had leveled off and over the half-decade since, Twitter has shrunk almost in half, shed its vaunted geotagged resolution, centralized around an ever-older set of elite accounts and transitioned from a place to hear from the world to a place to retweet from afar. What does this mean for the future of the global town square?

The great dream of social media was that it would give everyone a voice. From heads of state to ordinary citizens, everyone, no matter where they lived, what they looked like, what their background or place in society was, would be equal. Most importantly, these social platforms would be free to publish to and consume and would not preference the wealthy and powerful over the traditionally disenfranchised.

Elites would no longer control the global conversation. We would finally have our long-elusive vision of communicative democracy.

Facebook said it acquired visual shopping and artificial intelligence startup GrokStyle in a move to bolster the social-media company’s own AI work.

GrokStyle’s technology, which was integrated into Ikea’s mobile app, was simple in practice. A user takes a picture of a piece of furniture and the technology would match it to similar products that could be purchased online. On its website, GrokStyle said it is “winding down” its business, but that it is “moving on as a team” along with its technology. The company didn’t disclose it’s joining (FB, +0.58%) Facebook.

“We are excited to welcome GrokStyle to Facebook,” Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan said in a statement. “Their team and technology will contribute to our AI capabilities.” She declined to disclose a purchase price.

Facebook wants to remove its dependency on Google and Android for its own hardware products like its Oculus headsets and augmented reality technology, so the company is making its own operating system.  

Facebook's VP of hardware, Andrew Bosworth, told the publication that Facebook doesn't trust that rivals will ensure there's space for Facebook in future, which social media giant is betting will be based around virtual realty and augmented reality.

Améliorer la santé de la conversation”. Voici comment Twitter vante les mérites de sa toute dernière acquisition. Il s’agit de Fabula AI, une start-up basée à Londres spécialisée dans l’analyse approfondie des graphes en utilisant l'apprentissage automatique. Twitter compte s’appuyer sur cette technologie pour améliorer sa lutte contre les infox et le spam notamment en extrayant des signaux à partir des relations et interactions détectées dans le graphe. Un outil qui devrait s’avérer primordial alors que les Etats-Unis s’acheminent vers la campagne pour l’élection présidentielle de 2020. 

L’acquisition de Fabula s’apparente davantage à une recrutement de talents puisque l’équipe va rejoindre le groupe Cortex chez Twitter qui développe les solutions de machine learning pour le réseau social. Michael Bronstein, le cofondateur de la start-up pilotera les travaux sur l’apprentissage profond des graphes. Twitter n’a pas communiqué les détails financiers de l’acquisition de Fabula AI. (Eureka Presse)
